I had buddies who wouldn't eat a doughnut in uniform. I'd hold the damn thing over my head and announce I was going to eat a doughnut, if anyone wanted to make a wise crack now was the time to do it before I started chewing, said in jest of course. I would also sometimes announce I was about to boldly reinforce stereotypes, then eat a doughnut.

If some goober did want to do the "cops like doughnuts" thing, I'd just ask them "Do YOU like doughnuts? Because you know the only type of person who doesn't like a doughnut? Communists. You're not a Communist, are you?" These days I'd likely be disciplined for not being sensitive to the Communist community or Gluten aggression or some such BS, but it was quite a bit of fun to watch peoples reactions when they began to profess their own love for doughnuts.

What did PF do?

I am purely GUESSING, but I think he is referring to someone violating the P-F code of conduct by posting "derogatory comments that are racial in nature" (by posting a picture that equates a dead African American as being a gorilla), and then the P-F staff not removing the offensive material.

I am more on your side of the fence of stating that you don't agree or condone it, and just moving on, but there may be some who feel that it is the duty of the staff to stomp out offensive discourse which is not in line with representing the values of P-F or the majority of its members.

Purely guessing, though.

I suppose my response was too subtle. I thought it was a pretty fucked up thing to post. The reason I didn't remove it is because I pretty strongly believe that it's not my job to protect adults from their own thoughts/words/memes. If you want to post something stupid, or racist, or whatever, I'm largely disinclined to delete it, and thereby protect you. I strongly believe that people should own their words and be defined by their actions. Now, if things start to get out of hand, I can start making people go away. I'd rather not do that, but I have in the past and I'm sure I will again (probably sooner and more frequently than I'd like).

If someone wants to self-identify as an asshole, I think it's appropriate for everyone to see that. If I delete the offending post, then people get to just assume that I'm being capricious or whatever. And that's precisely what people have done in the past. It may not be the best policy, but I think it's a good step towards my goal of the PF community being largely self-policing. People are, of course, free to disagree with me and explain how I'm wrong. In fact, I'd welcome it.

MDS suggested last year (maybe the year before), that we have an area (viewable by all, but not open to replies) where inappropriate content (stupid, racist, troll-like, etc.) be moved instead of just deleted. This way it doesn't clutter up good threads and people's bad behaviour gets to be forever associated with their account and not hidden away. I haven't implemented that yet because frankly there's little need for it. Not yet, anyway.

It's certainly possible that I read more into it than was intended or was really there.

To be honest, MY initial take on the image was that he's trigger happy (so says the media and SJW crowds) and would have loved to shoot the gorilla. Further examination I can now see the multiple entendre that be taken from the meme. See, I don't go straight for the racist slant on most images I see. As many a smart person has said, I'm not responsible for what you hear when I speak. Further discussion probably would be better suited for PFestivus, as I suspect it'll get quite salty.
