Do they have 10rd 2.0 Compact mags out yet?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Not that I've found anywhere. I've e-mailed S&W twice and they won't confirm anything.
I have a 2.0 Compact (4") that is a great shooter (my FFL pinned the two mags to 10 for me), but I can't shoot it much because I'm waiting on more magazines. I'm tempted to have my FFL order the 15 round mags and pin those but I'd rather have the factory 10-rounders...

My M&P9 M2.0 has been absolutely reliable, accurate, concealable and easy to maintain having put over 1,500 rounds of mixed ammo downrange.
As cjb1911 did, I too blacked out the rear sight and replaced the front OEM sight with a fiber optic sight. I did this because I am a front sight shooter and my eyesight acuity has diminished with age. A fiber optic is much easier for me to focus upon than an iron sight.
This pistol and my Shield9 aleternate as my EDC.

I have an original M&P 1.0 from 2009 that is beset by the well documented problems with these guns. Accuracy is poor. While it can maintain 3” 25 yard groups with 147 gr HST at point of aim, 147 gr Speer Lawman shoots 5” groups several inches high. Assorted 115 gr training ammo only sporadically hits the paper target at that distance.
The stock trigger is also terrible. It has a smooth take-up to a wall, followed by an extremely heavy break and a very long reset that is not tactile or audible at all. I replaced it with an Apex DCAEK, which brought the pull weight down to a reasonable value, strengthened the reset spring, and shortened the reset. Unfortunately, the trigger break and reset remained very mushy. Though much improved, I would occasionally miss the reset when shooting fast.
Even with accuracy removed from the equation, I cannot shoot it as quickly as a Glock or VP9. My hand is huge, and the large back strap grip squirms around in my hand even after being stippled. The beavertail does not engage the web of my hand and for me is worthless. Although the gun does not have a lot of perceived “snap” or recoil, the sights flip a lot for a striker fired gun and tracking is slower and less consistent than the competition.
As such, I have been a Glock shooter for years and was pretty skeptical when the M&P 2.0 came out. Given the current sale and rebate environment, however, I could not resist and I picked up a compact 4” model.
I am extremely impressed.
The first thing I did was check the trigger. The reviews calling it much improved are correct. In my example, there was gritty take-up to a wall. From there, instead of a very heavy snap break there was more of a “roll” through the sear. This was encumbered by more grit and a false break, though I am not sure I would have noticed if I was shooting quickly. The reset was very short, and was audible and tactile. Out of the box, I rated it as much better than the original M&P but not as good as a Gen 5 Glock.
Because I already had Apex parts sitting in a box and because I was not completely satisfied with the grit in the take-up and sear roll, I decided to put them in and see how things changed. The result was sublime. The new trigger bar created a far different and better outcome than the same parts on the original M&P. There was now a long but completely smooth take-up (which I like on a carry gun) followed by a wall and a nice carrot-like break at around 5lbs. The reset was very short, completely smooth, and very tactile and audible. There was no over-travel. I would find it to be extremely fast and usable. The Gen 5 Glock trigger goes by a bit of a different philosophy in that there is a long rolling break that never hits a wall, but the Apex M&P 2.0 gives me everything I would want in this kind of trigger. This is a very subjective topic, but with the Apex parts installed I don’t think I would change anything.
The first thing I did when I got it to the range was shoot at 25 yards with my elbows lightly supported. I managed 3” groups or slightly better with everything I tried. For me, totally acceptable. My Gen 5 Glock 19 which I used as a control tended to group slightly better, but not enough to make any kind of practical difference. As another control, I pulled out the old M&P 1.0 and it was as bad as ever.
The real surprise came when I brought it down to shoot steel on a timer. While I was hoping for improved accuracy and an improved trigger, I expected a gun that would be less shootable than the 1.0 because of the smaller grip (which is only just big enough to accommodate my hand). Instead, I found a gun that tracked much better than the full size 1.0. Due apparently to some mixture of the new metal frame insert, the new RSA, and the new grip texturing this gun shoots a lot flatter and faster (for me) than the full size 1.0 and the timer confirmed it. It “seemed” to go faster than the Glock 19, but my timer said they were pretty much neck and neck in both courses of fire and low split times. I was more accurate at speed with the Glock, but the Glock had much better sights and I had a lot more practice with it.
Another thing I would like to point out is that the grip extensions with the 17 round magazines are extremely usable on the 2.0c and magazine changes are very easy. The 17 round magazines do not wobble, and if I am not looking I cannot tell whether I am holding a full length grip or compact grip with the extension. This was not the case with the original 9c, where the grip ended so high up that extension felt odd and the side of my palm would interfere with the magazine being released.
The one feature I really like on the M&P that sets it apart is the safety. Some might not like it, but with my massive hand, it is easy to use and positioned very naturally so that toggling it off is a completely natural thing to do whenever I grip the gun. I still have a M&P Shaggy holster with a notch contoured into it to keep the safety locked whenever the gun is holstered, and this would give me a lot of peace of mind if I decide to carry the M2.0c. I prefer to carry AIWB and even with a SCD, I still worry that some draw string or flap of clothing could work itself into the Glock’s trigger guard as I bend and twist in daily life. As extraordinarily unlikely as this is, it only has to happen once.
In my eyes, this M&P has a long way to go to prove itself. I have only put a few hundred trouble-free rounds through it, and it does not have the breadth of user base or positive feedback as the Gen 5 Glocks. It will never have quite the level of support or mechanical simplicity as the Glock, and I am not sure it is quite as robust as the Gen 5 Glock because of the striker design, compressing vs. stretching springs, all the extra parts associated with the sear assembly, etc. Regardless, the improved trigger, accuracy, shootability, and adaptability with the easy 17 round mag integration have closed the distance between the M&P and Glock enough where I think this is a serious competitor.
Some might not care, and others might not like it, but for me the M&P safety brings the extra dimension that could someday bring me to carry this gun. I like the new M2.0 that much so far.

I picked mine up from my FFL on Friday. The first thing I noticed was how nice the trigger felt. The trigger pull was a little longer than I expected but it was clean without any creep. The wall felt like it lightened after I cleaned the factory preservative our and lived the gun. WAY better than any 1.0 I ever tried. I absolutely loved the grip texture and I wish all plastic guns came with that texture from the factory. I also really like the safety. It has a positive tactile and audible click and does not feel mushy to me at all. It’s also located in a good spot.
My only concern was whether the 25y accuracy issues were solved. Sadly I’m not a very skilled 25y shooter but I had to do the best I could. This target is the first 10 rounds fired out of the gun (the 10 marked with one hash mark):

I was aiming for the 3x5 card and hit 5/10. My training partner fired a slightly tighter group on his attempt. I ended up settling on the medium-large backstrap. It gave me the most control while still allowing me to reach the magazine release. Between myself, my training partner, my girlfriend and her friend, we fired 172 rounds through the gun. We used a mix of 124gr Blazer brass, 124gr Speer Lawman, and 115gr Tula steel cased. I managed a personal best Bill Drill from the low ready: 1.72s at 7y clean into the 8 ring on a B8. Most of the rounds were in the black.

No matter how much I shoot Glocks, the second I pick up a gun with a 1911ish grip angle, I find the sights point naturally for me. This gun was no exception. It really makes me dislike Glocks even more for how simple they are to detail strip. The M&P needs more tools since the striker block safety can only be removed by taking off the rear sight. I’m also not a huge fan of the roll pin holding the extractor in place. Glocks have spoiled me with how simple they are. Also #SCDMasterRace.
Still, I like the gun and my girlfriend basically fell in love with it so I’ll probably keep it.

Yesterday, my brother traded in his M&P 22 for his first defensive pistol. He thought he wanted an FNX 9 because he has held one before.
After going to the gun shop, him holding an FNS (No FNX) and a few other guns I finally got him to look at a few of my suggestions. Glock 19.5 and M&P 2.0 Compact. I tols him if he is going to sacrifice the DA hammer driven that he wants (cant afford alot of other DA options) and go striker that he should look at the most popular two striker guns.
Between grip texture and thumb safety, he perferred the 2.0 Compact. A different gunstore was willing to give him $200 trade in on the 22 and order the 2.0 compact. $350 somthing cash, plus trade in, and he'll get the rebate after. Not the best deal but also found a local gunshop he likes so building the relationship might be worth the 22lr.
I think he is getting a solid "do-all" pistol, and he has literally followed the M&P line from Airgun, to 22, to 9mm. I'm to close with him to truly teach marksmanship (brotherly competition and ego. Probably from both of us) but I'm glad I could present some pros and cons and have him pick a solid gun.
I'll be watching this thread even closer now.

My brother picked up his 2.0 compact, and we put around 200 rounds through it. No real training, more like shooting cans and the like.
The gun shop only gave him two 15 round magazines. I was pretty sure the gun is suppose to come with a 17 round magazine as well. At this point I've told him to forget that gun shop. I wasnt there when he picked it up, or I would have made a stink about it. At this point, he could have purchased the pistol online and gotten everything it is suppose to actually come with, come out cheaper than buying from the local place, and kept his M&P 22LR instead of losing it on a trade in. I realize the LGS has to make some money too... but sure seems like this one is just taking advantage of someone who didn't know any better on the prices.
As far as the gun, WOW. I can't believe how much I like that little bugger. The grip texture is probably the best I've ever held. I'm sort of wondering if ultra thin grips on a 92 can somehow be made with that texture. It's perfect, and really locks into your hand. The gun was easy to control, small enough to conceal (Next paycheck broski said hes going to ask me to grab a holster for him. Likely going to get him a JMCK IWB3 for it) and returned to sights pretty well. I was seriously impressed. The trigger felt... meh. I guess when I think of a striker trigger my 17.4 with 6500ish rounds through it is what comes to mind. I just expected the trigger to be a bit crisper. It was still very shootable just maybe not my preference.

How'd it stack up to your gen 5 19's? I went the gen 5 route but played around with one of these the other day and it sort of called my name...

Keeping in mind that I'm of a similar mind to psalms144.1 in that Glocks are the gun I love to hate, I think it stacked up pretty well based on my short range session. I think the trigger is perfectly adequate, the factory sights are usable and not made of plastic, the grip angle is more natural to me, and the M&P backstrap system is way better than Glock's. I prefer the Glock's simplicity and the Gen5 guns are some of the most vetted pistols in the history of LE testing. I've seen the Glock Gen5 test results from the FBI's pistol solicitation. The Gen5 Glocks, no joke, SHATTERED reliability records. They're very accurate, shootable guns with decent triggers. With the Ameriglo Bold sights as a factory option, the Glocks can be had with some of the best sights I've ever used straight out of the box. Both Glocks and M&Ps have a ton of aftermarket accessories available for purchase but the Glocks do have more options for sights and holsters. The Glocks require a trigger press to disassemble, which I absolutely hate, but they can be equipped with a SCD for safer reholstering. The M&P can be had with a fairly decent manual safety.
The Gen5 Glock is the best pistol ever offered by Glock but it still has certain Glock traits I don't like. I don't like the grip angle or the trigger pull disassembly. I don't like the backstrap system as much as that of some other guns. I love how simple the guns are internally. There's a certain peace of mind that comes from being able to be your own armorer with nothing more than a punch. I like the trigger in my carry Gen5 A LOT. It's the best trigger I've ever felt in a striker fired gun. If they were all like that, it would be a huge point in the Glock column but the trigger on my training Gen5 isn't very good. The one in the M&P is probably better. I'm in a Glock agency and I'll be sticking with my Gen5 guns as long as the agency issues and requires Glocks on duty. If I wasn't required to run Glocks at work, I still might stick to the Gen5 Glocks because, at this point, I'm pretty vested in them as a platform. I have three guns, two boxes filled with magazines, a bunch of spare parts, multiple holsters and mag pouches, etc. If I wasn't tied to anything already and was just starting out, I'd probably flip a coin. That's how comparable I think the two guns are. If I was giving pistol recommendations to someone who wasn't a police officer at my agency and wasn't already vested in one platform over another, I would tell them the M&P 2.0C is probably just as good as the Gen5 Glock 19 and can be had for a lot less money than a non-blue label Glock right now. Plus there's a $50 rebate offered by S&W until the end of September. I just submitted mine yesterday.
If you have $350 extra dollars and would like a gun to mess around with, get one from Grabagun and see if you dig it.

I don't think your FFL ripped your brother off. As far as I know, the gun only comes with two 15 round magazines. Mine only had the two and the website has a short intro video saying the same thing. It does come with two little mag sleeves to allow you to use the 17 round mags in the compact gun but doesn't actually come with those mags themselves.

Mine only came with two 15 round mags but it did come with two mag sleeves for 17 round mags which I obtained from S&W during a promo last fall. I don’t think they screwed him on mags but I could be wrong.

FWIW, pairing a Heinie rear with a Trijicon HD XR front for the shield (.185T) gives POA/POI with 115 gr. WWB & AE at 25 yards on my 2.0c.

^^^I agree:D
I went with the 3.6” because I preferred a G26 for AIWB over a 19 due to OAL. Grip was never an issue with the 19, but slide length was when sitting. The 3.6” gave me that same footprint of the 26 with a 19 sized grip. Think G26X.
However, finding a holster specific to the 3.6” 2.0 was more of a challenge. The 4” models would obviously fit but that would have defeated the purpose I was looking for. IIRC, there were only three companies that made a holster for it: Galco, DeSantis, and Priority 1. I ordered the Priority 1 as it was a NC based company and have been pleased thus far.
The 3.6” has a rail but don’t expect a X300 or TLR-1 to fit. I have read that the TLR-7 fits, so consider your WML options/preferences also as I believe the 4” will accept most all WML’s.
I have 480 rounds through mine with no issues to report. That’s after only adding some lube the day I picked up from my FFL.

After 8100 rounds my 2.0C is out of the carry lineup until I get some parts from Smith. It developed light primer strikers so they sent me a new striker assembly. The light strikes continued. I looked at the old striker and it is badly worn from contact with the striker block. It looks like the block isn't moving entirely out of the way and the striker is dragging on it. That could be fixed with a trigger bar loop adjustment on the first gen guns, but the 2.0 doesn't have the loop. I'm going to call them Monday and ask for a trigger bar(and whatever else they'll give me) and see if that solves it.
Any updates? I think you've got the most rounds through your 2.0C of anyone who's posted so far. I'm curious how these guns handle long term round counts and I won't be putting a ton of ammo through mine. I'd love to see someone put one of these through a long term endurance test like TLG used to do.

I called S&W and they told me I'd have to send it in and they would have it for 4-5 weeks. The last time I had to send a gun to them they didn't even have it for 4-5 days so I wasn't expecting that. I talked to someone who knows someone and he's going to try to get it expedited. I'll probably drop the gun off today. For now I'm back to a full size 2.0. It's approaching 6500 rounds. I checked out the striker in it and it isn't showing the wear that the compact's striker has.

My experience with S&W in recent years: If you call the mother ship or a field rep for a part or small problem they are helpful, lightning fast, and great to work with. If you send a gun home - especially if replacement is indicated - everything comes to a screeching halt.

They were awesome when it was assumed the problem was the striker spring reaching the end of its life. They sent the assembly with no issues. Now even the rep insists the gun be sent it.
I also asked the guy in tech support about spring replacement intervals. He said there is no recommended schedule for anything in the gun, and they are meant to be shot until something quits working. I asked his personal opinion on intervals and he got pretty pissy. Overall he was kind of a dick, and not nearly as professional and helpful as everyone else I've ever talked to there.

Apparently, he's never opened their armorer's manual. It contains a comprehensive table of replacement intervals.

I picked up a 3.6" M&P 2C to go along with the 4" model. This one was born 7/2018. My observations:
1. The trigger is much better than the 4" model. The original trigger on the 4" was good but not great, and I installed Apex parts I had laying around for a superb results. This new specimen has some grit on the takeup, but not a disturbing amount. I suspect it would be very nice with a good polish. The sear break is 95% as good as the Apex, and actually feels very similar. The reset is still very short, though the Apex is a hair shorter. There is a small amount of overtravel with a little grit associated with striker block engagement on the rest, whereas there is no overtravel at all on the Apex. When I shot them side by side in practical fire exercises, the difference between the two triggers was not very noticeable at all. In slow fire I could tell the Apex was slightly better, but not enough to make much of any difference in outcome.
I realize that this is likely random variation but it goes to show that some M2.0 trigger are a lot better than others out of the box. I felt that the first one I got was definitely inferior to a Gen 5 Glock and needed Apex upgrades. The second one is much better and I am not going to rush to install an Apex kit. The triggers are still similar enough that I can shoot them side by side without having to make any noticeable adjustment.
2. In my hand, the 4.0" does indeed have slightly less recoil and shoots slightly flatter than the 3.6". Before going any further, I want to emphasize the word "slightly", but there definitely was a difference when I paid close attention. I could pull the trigger just as fast on either gun, but the 3.6" wanted to "lift off" more and had a harder time settling back on target in Bill Drill etc. This difference was small enough where it was probably commensurate to the added hassle of carrying an extra 1.1 ounces and having the slide protrude an extra 0.4" beneath the waist band. They are close enough where I would not hesitate to carry one and train with the other.

Snapshot, M&P 9/40 family, per S&W
every 5k- replace slide stop, trigger return spring, RSA, coil pins, magazine spring and follower
every 10k- replace trigger bar assembly, striker assembly

Snapshot, M&P 9/40 family, per S&W
every 5k- replace slide stop, trigger return spring, RSA, coil pins, magazine spring and follower
every 10k- replace trigger bar assembly, striker assembly
every 20k- replace locking block, takedown lever and retaining wire, magazine catch, striker block, spring, and spacer, ejector
A new striker assembly every 10K? Is that normal?
Fortunately I think my 200-ish round 2.0 is fine for a while.

Huh, and some scoff at Beretta for specifying a 30K interval locking block replacement.

I love my 2.0s so far, but that’s a slightly concerning amount of stuff they want replaced at those marks. I realize that once I’ve shot 10-20K I will have vastly outstripped what I spent on the guns, but still.
I have to wonder if Smith is just being super cautious with those intervals. I seem to recall TLG running an M&P 1.0 quite a bit harder than that without locking block or striker replacement.

I picked up a 4" compact about a month ago for $400 with the two 15 and one 17 round mags. 500 trouble free rounds downrange so far. I love the grip texture, trigger also works well for me.
My only gripe is being a lefty, I can't use the slide lock to reload the pistol. No issue just sling shotting it home. I was on the fence recently about getting a gen5 19, but with this pistol performing so well and working for me I don't see the point.
All I need are some better sights!

The tip of my striker assembly on my 2.0c broke off at 5100 rounds. Luckily I was able to pull the striker out of my 2.0 full size and keep the gun running and ordered another assembly from S&W. Will keep an eye on the new assembly once it is received and installed.

The right-side slide release on my 2.0c was stiff at first but loosened over time.
If you are looking for sights, I have had success pairing a Heinie rear sight and Trijicon HD XR front sight for the shield (.185T). This combination yields POA/POI from 5 yards to 25 yards on an NRA B-8 with all the 115 gr. and 124 gr. ammo I have tried.

I am not sure of the exact dimensions. They are whatever the standard Heinie dimensions are for the m&p. I believe they list the notch width as .156.

Shot it back to back with my 19 and the 19 is going up for sale.
My scores on the mantis are also higher. I do not think it needs any after market upgrades other than blacking out the sights.

Friday I received my 2.0C back from S&W. I had sent it in because it started having light primer strikes at around 7500 rounds and by 8100 it was constant. Based on the peening on the striker arm it looks like there's a timing issue and the striker block isn't getting fully out of the way. I pointed that out when I called them and put it in a note in the box when I sent the gun in. When I got the gun back the only repair on the list was an extractor spring replacement. Needless to say I wasn't surprised when I shot it Saturday and the third shot was a failure to fire due to a light primer strike.
I called them back today and spent forever on hold again before actually talking to someone. She was as dumbfounded as I was about the "repair work" done and talked to the tech who worked on it. He said he fired it and didn't get a light strike so he didn't think there was a problem. She said they don't have phones on the tech floor and they are too lazy to walk up to her office so they've just been returning guns without fixing problems or calling the owners to discuss them. She was pretty irritated. I have to send the gun back in, and she put a note in the system to have it go straight to upper management in the tech department when it gets there.
On a side note, I found out the other day that M&P's now come in a cardboard box instead of a hard case.

With depressed sales and profit loss in the industry, we may see more examples of incompetent customer service. That's counter-intuitive but does seem to occur. Lay-offs, crisis management decisions, and poor leadership can affect a company from top to bottom. And then there are labor problems that can occur.

I wouldn't let this deter you. The gun went 7500 rounds without a stoppage, and I'm sure it just needs a trigger bar. I have two other M&P 9's, one with a single user induced stoppage in 8000 rounds and one that is stoppage free at about 12,000. This service department issue has been frustrating but you won't find a manufacturer that hasn't done something similar.
The gun that shipped in the cardboard box was just in the last couple weeks.

2.0s that came in earlier this year arrived in plastic boxes with all the usual fluff. They were LE guns through those channels. Commercial different, perhaps?

It's hit and miss. Sometimes they've sent me parts for free. They recently sent me a striker assembly for my 2.0C. But it's also back to them for the second time because it seems to need a trigger bar. They said they didn't want to spend money to send the bar in case that wasn't the issue, but they're spending more than that mailing the damn gun back and forth multiple times. It was supposed to go straight to management this time and I was supposed to get a call when they got but it's been a couple weeks of silence. I'm going to call them Monday and see what's going on.

I multiple 2.0 Compacts and one 2.0 FS that came in the plastic boxes. Just traded for a like new 2.0 5 inch FDE and it came in a cardboard box.
As to M&P maintenance and parts replacement, I come from a group of high volume M&P 1.0 shooters and no one I know replaced parts in the "recommended" frequency. In my experience, for example, S&W will replace worn/broken mag followers for free but you pay for mag springs as they are wear items.

Using the same pistol most shooters use the same JHP ammunition for carry at all times.

Still on the 2.0 bandwagon. Carrying a 2.0 Compact 9mm no thumb safety and spending a lot of time with a 2.0 FS 9mm. Recently picked up a 2.0 5 inch FDE as I like the M&P original Pro 5 inch models for IDPA. On the 2.0 FDE 5 inch that I set up for range use not carry, I removed the thumb safety (frame plugs on order) and installed a set of Dawson adjustable target rear (discontinued - in the parts box from previous M&P project), Dawson FO front, TTI guide rod and 14 lb recoil spring (intended for G17), APEX USB, APEX sear, and APEX polymer trigger. I do not have a trigger gauge at home but trigger is very good. I have always wanted a STI 2011 5 inch 9mm - this seems like a much less expensive alternative. Shown with my Ready Tactical holster and mag pouches. Put about 500 rounds of reloads through it so far.

Where did you find the plugs? I have a 2.0 Compact 4" with, and just can't get cozy with it. I think I have a deal worked out to trade mine to a fellow that wants the safety, and I have another one without on the way ($399 at Brownells, with a $40 gift card), but might want some plugs in case the deal doesn't go through, or I go for one of those 5" versions :)

Yes, I have done a few before. I keep trying to like the TS but it is just enough different than a 1911 that I wuss out. I did a little scheming on trying to construct a slightly lower lever on this one, but I only have so many projects. I had just always bought the plugs from www.speedshooterspecialties.com and they have been out of stock. Since you can just buy them from Smith it is probably not worth their bother. I have a deal worked out (I think) that is pretty cost neutral, but had I found the plugs a moth ago I might not have floated the offer.

Wright shooting had a picture of a 2.0 c.o.r.e on their Instagram today. Hopefully they do a 2.0c along with the fullsize c.o.r.e. I'm ready to start a journey with red dots and I'm just waiting on this release.
Does anybody have any experience with these as an RDS host? I picked one up for cheap, added a thumb safety for my AIWB wants, and am considering it as a way to dip my toes into the RDS world.
Thus far I'd describe it as a $400ish Glock 19 with much of the stuff people pay to have done already included.

I purchased my M&P 2.0 compact without a TS in November of last year after spending six months with the full-size 2.0. I figured it might be beneficial to put my thoughts on the pistol into writing in case anyone is considering the platform.
Background:
I shot a stock Gen 4 Glock 19 for three years leading up to purchasing the full-size 2.0. The G4G19 was a platform that I could run well, but not nearly as consistent as I would have liked. I would go through spells of range trips where I shot the G4G19 very well and then would go through weeks of shooting it poorly. When the 2.0 full-size was first released I honestly did not pay much attention to it until Frank Proctor started raving about the guns. I figured, this guy knows a little bit about shooting so this might be a platform worth looking at. When I started shooting the 2.0 full-size I found that I shot on-par with my better days with the G19 but at a much high level of consistency. When the 2.0 compact was announced, I picked one up as soon as I could find on in a gun store.
Experience:
From the beginning, I shot the 2.0 compact as well as the full-size and more consistently than I was shooting Glocks. When I purchased the 2.0 compact I decided to see if the Apex parts were as great as everyone, including Proctor, was saying. What I found, for me, was that there was no measurable gain in accuracy or consistency with the Apex parts. In short, the only Apex parts I found worthwhile are the USB and semi-fit barrel (more on this later). The USB gets rid of some of the grit, and a small hitch, before the wall. I was not a fan of the DCAEK and, honestly, not a fan of shortening the pre-travel of a fully-tensioned striker. I actually prefer the feeling of the hinge trigger after spending time with the 2.0s. While I do not feel the Apex barrel is necessary, it was purchased for me as a gift from my wife (on the recommendation of a friend), so I fit it and have shot the last 3,000 rounds using it. It definitely improved the lock-up of the barrel and has some retention benefits that I heard Kyle Defoor talk about in a recent class. With that said, accuracy at 25 yards was on par with my G4G19 with the stock barrel. The only other modification I made to the gun was sights. I tried Warren Sevigny, Heinie straight-eights, Heinie rear with a Trijicon HDXR front, and finally settled on the Proctor y-notch sights. After learning how to correctly use these, I feel that they give me everything I need in a sight package for speed and accuracy. I have set many personal records with the 2.0 compact and Proctor sights on: The Test, HiTS Advanced Super Test, slow fire B-8s at 25 yards, speed bulls at 25, and Mike Pannone’s Marksmanship Evaluation Course, as well as several other different drills. I have run everything from AE 115 & 124 gr., Aguilla 115 gr., Speer Lawman 124 gr., WWB 124 gr. NATO, WWB 115 gr., Fiocchi 115 and 124 gr., and Speer Gold Dot 124 gr. through the gun with the only possible issue being with the WWB 124 gr. NATO (see below).
Carry:
Because of its dimensions, the 2.0 compact carries for me as well as my G4G19. I did have to knock down some of the texture on the grip to make it more comfortable to carry in the South during the summer months, but still have solid texture on the gun. I currently carry it in a JM AIWB wing claw with a single DCC clip and a Dr. Scholl’s heel pad on the back acting as a wedge. This has proven to be the most comfortable option for me.
Breakages:
In 7,000 rounds over the last year, the only parts breakage I had was the tip of the striker breaking around 5,000 – with the last 2,500 leading up to the breakage being solely WWB 124 NATO. I replaced the striker with the one that was in my full-size 2.0 and have not seen any issues since the breakage. In my opinion, all mechanical parts can fail, even under optimal circumstances. I have not noticed any issue with the striker since replacing it.
Overall Thoughts:
For me, the 2.0 compact does everything the G4G19 did, but, I shoot it much more consistently. I have been very pleased with the gun and would not hesitate to recommend it – even after the striker breakage. I feel as though this is the perfect gun for me and would be a great gun for someone so long as the respect that it is a fully tensioned striker and the utmost awareness for safety should be adhered to at all times. Like any firearm, it has some cons, but I feel the benefits greatly outweigh those.

I feel as though this is the perfect gun for me and would be a great gun for someone so long as the respect that it is a fully tensioned striker and the utmost awareness for safety should be adhered to at all times. Like any firearm, it has some cons, but I feel the benefits greatly outweigh those.
What is the retention issue on the barrel Kyle talked about?

Breakages:
In 7,000 rounds over the last year, the only parts breakage I had was the tip of the striker breaking around 5,000 – with the last 2,500 leading up to the breakage being solely WWB 124 NATO. I replaced the striker with the one that was in my full-size 2.0 and have not seen any issues since the breakag.
If I’m not mistaken, that’s a non functioning gun in 5K round?
Been approximately 2000 rounds thru my 'trainer' 2.0 compact without an issue.
I've had 1 or 2 failures to fire due to bad ammo.
Coming from being taught on a 1911 from my dad, it took a bit to relearn the whole disengage the safety thing, but it is second nature now.
The trigger is still stock, and has gotten smoother in my opinion, very predictable.
The gun is waaaaaaay more accurate than I am, and the Proctor sights really helped, but my 55 year old eyes really have had trouble discerning the Y in the sight causing me to shoot low under match time speed. I am truly considering going back to the 10-8 fibers because they were very, very easy for my eyes to find and follow.
The original KSG Armory holster is still my go to for EDC. I tried the JM Wing/claw 2.5, but it didn't work as well for me as the KSG. I EDC the 2.0 every day.
I platform hopped for about the last five years, and believe that I have found the 'niche' in this pistol. I haven't looked for greener pastures since I bought them.
My carry gun and HD gun get rarely shot, and I should shoot them more, but I have no doubt that they'd be just as reliable.
Smith nailed it with this gun, and, honestly, I cannot see the need or market for the 3.6" version. The "19 sized" 2.0 compact is the answer for me.

Correct. Fortunately, it happened during dry fire and I was able to replace the striker assembly immediately.

I think that the amount of dryfire one does is often not taken into account when looking at parts breakages and spring change intervals.
Very true.
I actually know of someone who broke the breach face of his glock 19 gen 4. from his dry fire routine.
Glock replaced it, but it certainly shows the wear that can occur.

I had purchased the 2.0 on a crazy good sale for about $375-380 if I recall correctly, with the intent of getting back into a G19 eventually. I haven't thought about the G19 since. Which is not a knock against the G19, it's great, but the 2.0 fills the same slot and I shoot it better. I've had zero issues yet and I'll update if I do, but I don't think I'm going to.
While I thought that the 19 was just about the ideal carry piece, I could never warm up the grip of the 19,vs the 17.
The 2.0 compact handles better for me and there's no "rear hump" issue with the grip.
It has become my EDC, and the only other gun I occasionally carry is the 642.
For me, Smith nailed it.

I’ve shot 4400 rounds through my 2.0 Compact since I bought it in Febuary 2017.
No issues. I still carry a G19 though. I was considering carrying the compact, but now that I know I’ll need to replace so many parts so often, I would need to buy another compact, one to carry and one to practice with as I shoot 6,000-8,000 rounds a year.
I think I’m going to replace the recommended parts and give it to a family member who doesn’t shoot as much as I do and continue carrying the G19. I have an aunt who is considering getting a gun for home defense. I think it would be a good fit. I don’t shoot the Compact 2.0 any better than the 19 anyway, though it does feel better in hand FWIW.
I have two 1.0 M&P45s that are tack drivers. I never carried them due to repeated magazine spring failure. I stayed away from the 1.0 9mm due to the accuracy issues.
After good reports from people I trust, I picked up a 2.0 9mm. I ran it in one class. In moderate rate fire, I shoot it well, but once I start to push things, it opens up more than it should. I used it in the last half of a class I was teaching this past week, and again had issues with it at speed.
I like a lot of things about the gun, and I could probably adapt to it if I went back to 0 with it and worked my up to speed, but seeing these recent posts here (and elsewhere) about parts breakage at relatively low round counts, I'll probably relegate it to loaner pistol status.

For what’s its worth they fixed the 45 mag spring issue a while back (I had the same concern before buying my 2.0 but was corrected by a few guys and gals here). Grab a few new mags and you should be sitting pretty.

Mag springs. Mine is an early one and the first run of magazines was good, they can be identified by orange-painted springs. There were a couple of production runs after those that were problematic. From what I understand, current springs are good.
What was the fix?
The mag springs are color coded. Make sure you do not have green or black magazine springs. S&W made a new follower and a blue magazine spring combo that fixed an issue of improperly tempered springs. Contact S&W - they will likely send you the new springs and followers for free. If not Speed Shooter Specialties in beautiful Brunswick, GA should have them.
The other option is buying Wolff replacement springs,

My brother picked up one of these, and it's really turned him from a run of the mill gun owner to someone informed or at least trying to be.
It's a good size. It offers a safety he felt was important. Its easy to shoot accurately which has helped him to shoot often. Its really basic, does what he needs, is similar to his wife's sheild which helps with family shooting. Aftermarket support.
He followed my recomendation (it took some time) and picked up a JMCK IWB3 for it. He's really glad it will activate the safety if he manages to screw up on a reholster.
This is going to become my stock answer to "What gun should I get?" in the future. Unless i missed something glaringly obvious in this thread.

I’ve done the same. Have turned two new shooter friends on to this gun. The single possible downside is the rough grip, which I live. If a shooter likes the grip, there is very little to critique.

After quite a bit of research, and good information from "The Esteemed Dentists", I have decided to move into this model (S&W M&P 2.0 Compact) after about 35 years of using Glocks (17, 19, 21, 30).
The largest criterion that is moving me is for the manual safety availability. If that were not an issue, there would probably be insufficient reason for a change. That there are skilled and reputable users on this site (Drs. Roberts and House) helped my decision, which was not an easy one.
Thank you all for the information that many have provided.
The largest criterion that is moving me is for the manual safety availability.
That was the primary reasons my brother decided on the 2.0 compact. I suggested the G19 gen5 and the 2.0 compact. He felt having a safety was a positive thing to have for reholstering.

I think the grip texture is awesome for shooting. I obviously havent carried the gun, so I cant speak to that. My brother did say a T shirt between him and the grip is nice.
I'm carrying a 92, so its wildly different... but I'm almost jealous of that grip texture. If I had that on the Glock I used to carry I would have loved it.

The T-shirt is the answer.
Been carrying mine for over a year now, and after platform jumping for years, this is what works-best-for-me.
I recently got a 1.0 M&P9c, for the '26 size' option. The 3.6" 2.0 makes no sense to me, as it still maintains the full-size grip[15 rounds].

Although mine is a 1.0 I greatly prefer it to my wife's G19 gen4. If nothing else the M&P grip feels like someone who cared designed it. The G19 feels like someone took a wood 1x3 and spent 5 minutes w/ a little sandpaper.
I’m in a ban state and Smith just made the 2.0 Compact available with 10 round mags.
I was a Sig guy for almost 20 years but the M&P just works for me—1.0, 2.0, full size, compact, 9mm, .45, they all seem to work better for me than anything else.

Had a chance to handle the full size M&P 2.0. Like you said really basic, but in the sense of everything that you need and nothing more - a somewhat flat yet ergonomic, textured grip and a very workable trigger. Makes you want to pick it up and take it for a ride. Very shootable. And a great price. Actually prefer the 4.25" barrel to the 5" barrel, which feels just a touch front heavy to my hand.....
Should give the compact a try:)

I have 3 .45acp M&Ps. The 1.0 in full-size and 4" barrel 8-round magazine. A 2.0 full-size. I like the upgrades to the 2.0. Texture of the 2.0 grip took a bit of getting use to, but I like it. Also, it seems like the 10 round magazine capacity limit gets traction depending on politics and events in the news. Nice to have a mag designed around the 10 round capacity that works from the git-go.

I have Proctor Y notch sights on mine now. Going to keep them for a little while longer to see if I a get used to them when shooting faster. Slow fire they’re great. I just can’t shoot any FO sights accurately at an kind of speed for some reason. If I end up with Trijicon or Ameriglos I’ll let you know and send these to you (if I don’t beat them all to pieces taking them off, tight fit).

Proctor sights are at outlier amongst fiber sights. The front post is wider than the rear notch which makes for a very tight sight picture, especially on a shorter sight radius gun like a 19.
Ben Stoeger said he sometimes found fiber sights too bright, so he uses green and runs a sharpie across the top. I'm not sure what your issue is but it could be similar.
Dimming the front sight is excellent advice and I’ve tried that in the past. I just have some weird issue with FO sights typically. I think I lose them easily in recoil (kind of odd) and realize the sights have been settled waiting on me to shoot again, leading to all sorts of problems. Who knows, probably some strange thing with me. A lot of dudes love FO though.
My 2.0 is up to around 800 rounds and doing good. I have the safety version and like it more than I thought I would once I got the backstrap situation figured out in relation to the safety. I think I read an older post by JHC that his hand got slide bite pretty bad due to thumb placement and the safety. My thumb knuckle was getting straight up gashed with the ML backstrap. I’ve done a 180 and am using the small, testing more trigger finger with the benefit of no more slide bite.

I prefer plain Black rear/ FO front.
For years I used plain rear sights and then tried the TFOs with the (supposedly dimmer) yellow rear dots and, at about age fifty six or so, decided I didn't hate the rear dots as much as I used to. Then I got a Ruger SR1911 Target and there are not a lot of choices (it is a "Kimber" pattern, I know after three tries...) and I ended up with a Dawson rear. The differences are subtle, but perhaps significant. For one, the rods are smaller, and they say "We counterbore the blade so the optic is recessed. This subtle difference focuses the light in the sight making it not only brighter, but clearer" and I think it matters. I went back to the TFOs on my most recent M&P, but I am pretty sure I will (new tires this week...) try some Dawsons instead. Also with the simple rod installation it is easy to mix colors. Not that we need celebrity endorsement, but while watching a Pat Mac video the other day he mentioned (I think he is 54yo) he cannot see the sights distinctly anymore, and the view was fleeting, but his sights looked like the Dawson's I am about to buy.

Not much love for the M&P 2.0 lately. I am still shooting my S&W M&P 2.0 5 inch FDE 9mm with the replacement polymer APEX trigger plus the Competition Action kit and Dawson target sights (rare adjustable rear and FO front). I still love it and have no idea of round count - all my reloads with 125 Bayous or 115/124 FMJs. I find the ergonomics and that trigger setup fit me best - maybe not anyone else but great solution for me.
Still carrying a M&P 2.0 Compact 9mm IWB in a COMPTAC CTAC. Have a 2.0 Compact 9mm with TS I may try AIWB soon.
I am cheating on 2.0s with a CZ P10F OR to try an optic as there are now "2.0 Optics Ready" that I know off.

Seeing lots of M&P 1.0s on used shelves, 40s don't move at all, 9s languish a bit less. There seems to be a trend of 1.0 full size shooters trading to 2.0 compacts, not the full size 2.0. Also, Shield 1.0 users trading into 43X and P365s, not 2.0 Shields.

I think the 2.0 Compact is a pretty good handgun, as is the Gen 5 G19... but I just rent the new stuff nowadays, since what I already have works well enough ("bang" every time barring a bad round) for a guy who has - statistically - four times more shooting years behind him than he has left in front of him.

There are a lot of the M&P 2.0s around Atlanta and they sell for low prices. $400ish seems to be normal and often can beat that. Definitely hard to sell 1.0s when 2.0s are available at those prices (not to mention availability of LEO trade ins).

This thread popping backing up reminded me I was going to post a 20,000 round report, but there wasn't really anything to report. There were a few light primer strikes around the 8 or 9000 round mark that was due to some shitty Federal aluminum that had the same problem in multiple guns. Seems the primers were too deep. Other than that it's stoppage free. I haven't cleaned it and use Slip lube. For the last few thousand rounds I've used the Slip 30 weight. It seems to stick around a little better.
Eventually something will wear out and I'll post an update.

Is S&W trying to eke out all possible sales profit from other 2.0’s before they release the 2.0 CORE?

They can't be making much at the sale prices around Atlanta on 2.0s. An issue with 2.0s and Optics is going to be the loaded chamber indicator cut on the barrel hood - I hope they change that on the 2.0 "optics ready/CORE" whenever it comes out.

The 2.0 CORE is out... I have two of them. They do have the loaded chamber indicator and it does cause buildup that I wipe off after shooting. I’m at about 700-800 rounds through one and a couple hundred through the other. Before I got the COREs I had an RMR on a compact M&P 2.0 with a Dueck Defense Mount and it had around a thousand rounds through it. It didn’t have the issue, but it was set back more and a bit protected by the integrated front sight. I have many more rounds through a Glock 17MOS I recently sold to go M&P only, and that pistol (no blow-hole) had no issues other than brass bouncing off the optic.

There are things I really like about it and some things I’m not so happy about.
The short sight radius on the backup irons didn’t seems to be an issue. They can’t be adjusted but were well regulated. It’s a great solution for someone who wants to test the waters with a gun they already have. The front sight makes it a bit harder to clean the front of the window but it’s doable. On my gun I had to fit the dovetail a bit which was good in my opinion for confidence that it wouldn’t move in the dovetail mount.
That brings up my main concern... the mount has two set screws for the dovetail. One of the screws sits directly over the striker block plunger assembly. That means it does nothing to hold the mount in place and I wonder if threaded down would impede the function of the plunger. I took that set screw out and just used the other one.
Lastly, I sliced my hand open on the sharp edges of the dovetail and had to roundthem slightly with a file... no big deal.

How is the accuracy doing on the 2.0 9mm line these days? They’ve been out long enough that I imagine some folks here have thoroughly wrung them out. Are they at least up to Glock Gen3-4 level now?

Accuracy is hit or miss with them in my experience. My M2.0 4.25" full size routinely produces 5 round groups 6"-8" when fired off hand at 25 yards. I also have an M2.0 4" compact, and using 147gr HST got two 5 round groups consecutively about 2.6” center to center at the same distance off hand.
I've tried using a bag for support when testing my M2.0 full size, which got my groups down to about 5"-7". I usually use 124 and 147 grain weight. The trigger on my compact is slightly crisper than the full size, but I doubt this explains the terrible groups with the full size. I don't always perfectly "call my shots" but I'm much more likely to have a flyer that surprises me with the full size. Ameriglo sights on both. It's still possible that this is user error, as I have not tested it in a Ransom rest.
I have read that these group sizes are common with M&P so I have not contacted S&W about it.

2.0 Compact “Optics Ready”. I believe the pictured gat is an LE SKU gun and they have apparently gone away from the CORE moniker on the LE guns. They are now listed under “Optics Ready” and C.O.R.E. is no longer engraved on the slide.
Of course they would release this right when my 2.0 Compact is being milled on @ ATEi.

IIRC, the 45s were always pretty good, glad to see that hasn’t changed. From the responses so far, it looks like the 9’s still might not be all that great.
For whatever reason, I still see reports about accuracy issues with the 4.25 9mm 2.0 but not that many about the compact or the five inch 2.0's.
My 2.0 Compact and 5 inch 2.0 FDE both turn in consistent four inch groups at 25 yards (I shot a three inch with the 5 inch one time) and I'm sure they'd do even better with someone else behind the trigger. My 1.0 4.25 has an Apex barrel and is the only pistol I've owned long-term that's never had a stoppage.

Put some more time in on my M&P M2.0 full size 4.25" that's been giving me big groups. I think part of the problem is my fault for sure. This one has more creep with some more steps/stacking before the break compared to my compact 4", and it's probably throwing me off. Also, I have a serrated rear sight on it, which with indoor lane stall lighting is confusing my eyes when it comes time to align the top of the sights. After practicing more with this particular M2.0 and no stall lighting, I shot 7 different 5 round groups at 25 yards off hand using 147 grain HST. One group was particularly bad but I am sure I jerked the trigger. The remaining 6 groups averaged 3.96", which is about as much as I can expect from any pistol. I don't have the talent that some here do for 25 yard groups, so others could likely do better. So overall, I recant my statement about M2.0 accuracy being hit or miss. It's probably about the same as any other $500 polymer pistol.

Slight thread drift to re-visit the Dueck Defense mount ...

That means it does nothing to hold the mount in place and I wonder if threaded down would impede the function of the plunger. I took that set screw out and just used the other one.
Installed one on my UTM / M&P slide last night. Hadn't been following this thread, so I was a wee bit surprised when the screw went WAY down in the FP safety plunger hole. Removed it and will hang my hopes on a pretty tight fit along with the other screw.

Does anybody know the difference between M&P 2.0 Compact magazines part #3000247 and #3008590 ?
I see both part #'s listed on various retail websites. Both listed as S&W factory 15 round magazines. Smith currently doesn't list a 15 round magazine on their website that I can find.
I wonder if they changed/updated the 15 round magazine design slightly?

My carry gun right now is a 2.0 CORE slide with RMR (RM06) on the compact frame with a Floyd’s mag well.
I’m a big fan of the 2.0 but I will say it’s a whole different gun with a well-fit Apex barrel.

For those who have shot them all, how does the recoil of the 2.0 Compact 4" model compare to the 4.25" and 5"? SoCalDep NickDrak
I'm switching to 9mm M&Ps from 9mm Glocks because my kid can shoot my old Gen 1 M&P Compact much better than a G19 or P365xl. The trigger reach seems too long on standard Glocks and the XL is enough snappier to be less fun for any volume of shooting. Her hands are never going to get much larger, so I guess it makes sense to just standardize on M&Ps moving forward.
I've already got a 2.0 compact on order for $409 shipped from Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore to replace my G19. They have 15rd mags for $28 and free shipping if you purchase them with a gun. It came out to $550 for the pistol and 6 mags, shipped. Not too bad. They also have 2.0 5" guns with night sights for $450 shipped, and a search on Gun Deals shows 2.0 4.25" guns going for under $400 shipped elsewhere. CORE models are also available in larger sizes for not unreasonable prices.
I'm wondering if the longer guns shoot noticeably softer enough to warrant consideration for daughter's training gun over a 2.0 compact model? It'd be nice to completely standardize on a single model across the board, but my old 1.0 Compact (now subcompact), two or three 2.0 compacts, and a single 5" training gun may make a better roster if the 5" shoots like a total dream for the kid.
What do you think? Is the 5" a different animal to shoot for a small person? Would a 1.0 4.25" CORE feel softer shooting than the 2.0 Compact?

You reminded me... I forgot that I also have a 5” tan 2.0... Awesome gun!!!
As for recoil. I don’t notice a significant difference between the three. The Compact is only .25” shorter than the full size and they use the same frame dimensions so I can’t really tell a difference. The 5” doesn’t seem to recoil less - as much as differently- seems a hair flatter in it’s recoil impulse.
I have experimented with a 13lb and 15lb recoil spring in one of my 4.25” COREs - the 13 gives a really nice snappy flat recoil, but with the SRO in my non SRO holster (there is a bit of movement in the frame since the SRO bottoms out on the ALS shelf) it pushed the slide out of battery on the draw. With the 15 it snaps back into battery as it comes out of the holster... the 15 feels maybe a bit better than factory but not enough to matter unless you’re a nerd like me and want to try things because you can.

The answer to that question is very subjective it is probably going to vary from person to person based upon hand size handshape grip etcetera. At one point I swap slides around between my compact and full-size framed m&ps. Throughout the different variations I did notice a difference between the 4.25 and the 4-inch slide. The 4-inch slide was noticeably snappier and seem to cycle faster. The 4.25 inch slide seem to shoot softer and cycle more gently. This was the case whether I had a given slide on the full size frame the compact frame or the compact frame with a 17 round magazine extension. There was no measurable performance difference though. for my m&p needs I would just get the 4.0 compact and use the magazine extensionif I wanted a little more grip and control. I really do find it very useful and natural and can only tell a difference between that in the full size when I'm really looking hard. All of this of course is an opinion; your mileage may vary

Mine aren't going anywhere. I currently have a 2.0 compact that I carry off duty, a 2.0 full size on duty, a 2.0 CORE, and a spare 2.0 full-size. I'm really a huge fan of these guns. I transitioned to 1.0 M&Ps as a long time Glock shooter and didn't look back but the 2.0s solidified myself in the M&P fan club. I have had zero problems aside from the tritium in my duty gun's front sight dying but that's a known issue, my department has had several front tritium vials come out of sights as well. For me it was the perfect opportunity to get approval for some HD XRs to replace the dead sights. I'm kinda interested in getting one of the 5" guns and one of the sub-compacts. After attending the armorer school and amassing so many M&P9 mags I'm probably not ditching the 2.0 unless something catastrophic occurs.

What do you think? Is the 5" a different animal to shoot for a small person?
I have been shooting my 5" pretty much every Sunday since I got it at the beginning of last year, and am a big fan, but would not describe it as a different animal. I looked at the weights on the S&W www site and they seem a little goofy, but probably the full size 5" version is just a bit over two ounces at best. Probably what I like the most about it is just subjectively how it looks, a 5" gun just seems properly proportioned to my eye. Another thing I might like about it is it seems as if I have been shooting fairly well for the last year or so, and this is what I have been shooting, so Hell Yeah, I like it!!
I had also been shooting M&Ps for a while, with 2-3 years of rekindling my love affair with the 1911 with a couple of 9mm Rugers, and had a bunch of the 17rd magazines, so making the 5" my main shooter is cool and convenient.
But the 2.0 Compact is my main go-to these days, and it really is the Goldilocks form factor. Long enough to ride well IWB, short enough grip to not poke me while driving, big enough grip to get a good presentation. Right now I am watching for the escalated prices on the 5" to deescalate because I want a secondary there, but will probably get another 4" Compact after that. I bought a couple of JMCK holsters for the TLR-1, and I have an extra set of TFO sights I replaced with Dawson FO, so my scheme is to setup FDE 5" #2 with the light and night sights. Hell, when they were out there for $409 I was considering getting a third one and getting it direct milled for MRD. I still might, just a little reluctant to pay the current $489 for what I was about to buy for $409, even though it is still a hell of a deal for $489. But in your case, since you bought in on the mags I would not be too quick to go to the 5" unless you just want something different.
ETA:
My current lineup is:
2.0 5" 9mm Full Size - My main every Sunday gun. All stock except for Dawson FO sights (I am 61yo, FO is a big help).
2.0 4" 9mm Compact - My primary carry gun. All stock except for TruGlo TFO sights, green front / yellow rear.
1.0 4.25" 9mm Full Size - This was my primary Sunday gun before doing 1911s for a while. I went all-in on Apex with this one, with the trigger and action kit and barrel.
1.0 3.5" 9mm (Sub)Compact - Before the 15rd Compacts this was my primary carry gun, has the Apex trigger and action kit.
1.0 4.25" 40S&W Full Size - This was the gun that got my focus onto M&P. I used to shoot a lotta forty and this one chewed through a bunch. Has Apex action and trigger.
1.0 4.5" 45ACP - This one sits in the bedside lockbox with a 14rd mag and a Streamlight.
1.0 Shield 45ACP - I like the slightly larger grip of the 45 Shield. This is a great gun that doesn't get much use, it falls between my J-Frames and the 4" Compact.
I have also have had the 45 Compact, 40 Subcompact, 40 Shield and 9mm Shield.

Thanks guys, that really helps put it into perspective. Sounds like I'd be further ahead by simply adding a weapon light for some extra, non-reciprocating mass out front. And the cheapest, low-powered Russian ammo. That should help minimize recoil for my kid, and it'll do it without giving up magazine compatibility or practical functionality for IWB carry.
I'll just plan to stick with the 4" guns unless I stumble upon a CORE that's too cheap to pass up.

You mentioned the 1.0 4.25 CORE vs the 2.0 compact as far as recoil difference. In my experience the 1.0 4.25 is a much softer recoiling gun than the 2.0's. The 1.0 slide has more mass than the 2.0 as it was originally designed for the .40 and its' just a puppy to shoot. The 2.0's are fantastic too and have good shooting characteristics as well. The recoil on them is no big deal. I highly recommend them both, although, the 2.0 is just a more refined version with a much better trigger.

Interesting! I had no idea the slide mass changed significantly between iterations.
I've never had a problem with my 1.0 Compact's factory trigger. It's mushy but smooth and light. I actually like mushy triggers with a rolling break. The grip texture on 2.0 is what I really like about them (beside the new 4" 2.0 Compact size). I think it's the best I've felt on a factory polymer gun. I'd probably pick up a 1.0 CORE if I found a screaming deal on one, though. I could add some granulate tape to a training/range gun without worrying about my skin or clothes.
Thanks for the input.

Your welcome. I agree on the 2.0 grip texture, it works great and, as of yet, I have not had any issues with carrying it AIWB against my skin. It is night and day better that the 1.0 texture which is almost non-existent and does necessitate added grip texture or stippling.

Theoretically, I like the idea of extremely judicious use--in very selective locations--of super light sandpaper. It strikes me as preferable to soldering irons or adhesive sheet material.

I so want to jump on the bandwagon as I like the 2.0 Compact more than the G19, but I can't get away from the single-action trigger with no way to control the striker on reholstering. The Gadget will keep me carrying Glocks until someone figures out this is a good feature to build into guns (besides Ruger, Springfield, etc).
I do occasionally toy with the idea of a manual safety M&P, but I'm not sure thats anywhere near as confidence-inspiring as the Gadget is.

I do not have an M&P with a safety but it is the only way I would own one.
The SCD and Manuel safety both have their pluses and drawbacks in regard to the Glock and M&P. My dream would be well done safety on a Glock with an SCD. Kind of a modern Hi-Power?

As for Duke's comments, point taken, and I'll admit it didn't freak me out until I read AIWB threads here, and I have carried such guns AIWB for extended periods without issue. But once that idea is in your mind it is tough to shake.
As I’ve said before, the SCD is more sensitive to proper thumb placement and pressure than a hammer is. That’s the only “downside”.
That can be overcome with practice, and/or the addition of an NY1 trigger.
The SCD is fantastic.

I have the M&P's with the manual safeties.
If you shoot the BHP or 1911, you'll be familiar, but better practice on your draw.
How do you like the TS on the MP vs a 1911?
For me, it seems like the MP TS would be better if it was just a very tiny bit lower and just a tiny bit bigger. The safety still is the best non 1911 safety I’ve tried on a striker gun. The safety on the Ruger American doesn’t look too bad.

I keep buying M&Ps with a safety because I want to like them so much, but for the shape of my hands they just do not fall in the right place.

I think exactly this. I keep wishing somebody would make one that dropped the lever just about 0.125" lower or so. But realistically the M&Ps I like sell so fewer than the Glock pistols, and the models with safeties sell such a small segment of those, it is unrealistic that somebody will do one. But boy, I sure would like it. After about 40 years of 1911 shooting it would be instinctive for me, but I am just one guy. But I think the M&P would be damn near the perfect striker gun for me, if that lever was just a littttttle bit lower. ...

In my hands, yes. In rapid shooting such as Bill drill I notice that the shorter slides tend to lift off a little bit more and I end up with more shot dispersion. The longer sight radius also helps a bit with accuracy beyond 15 yards.

Thank you for posting this. It reminds me of why I do not pursue the M&P with a TS. I want it to work so bad, but it's just enough off for me to say "no". If I was forced to carry an M&P, then I would use one with a TS, and make it work the best I could.

I think I bought four of them and ended up converting them. I even went to a local specialty welding shop who does gun stuff to try to get them to alter the current lever but they didn't want to screw with it.

I finally picked up a 9mm 2.0 Compact as a replacement for Glock 19. I should have done this years ago!
I've always struggled with the trigger reach on regular Glocks. It's most apparent when shooting one-handed. Using a gun that actually fits my hands is like I've suddenly hit the Easy Button. Even with two hands I can hit 8 inch steel at 25 to 40 yards noticeably faster and more reliably. I'm thrilled with the shootability. For me it was like buying skill.
I only have two gripes about the M&P 2.0 C vs G19.
First is no Striker Control Device functionality. This is a big downside to me; it's the reason I've stubbornly stuck with Glocks.
Second is the rear sight geometry. I really like how you can buy Glock rear sights that don't extend rearward of the dovetail. With 3:00 carry, I find that the pointy outside corner of a rear sight makes a strange inorganic printing "point" that looks conspicuously mechanical. The rounded rear of a Glock slide makes a more organic lump. A quarter or 3/8 inch of sight radius isn't useful enough to warrant that spike sticking directly off the back end of the slide. I see no good options for M&P pistols that address this.
55700
Gripes aside, I can simply shoot the M&P so much easier that I'm considering selling-off my longtime trusted companion G19 platform, and piles of associated support gear, at a significant loss. I'm really impressed with the 2.0 Compact.
It completely blows my mind that S&W didn't make a 15 round frame to accommodate the original 4.25" slide assembly from the very beginning! They would've only needed to produce one different frame mold and and the associated magazine. I'd actually prefer that configuration today. It's crazy that they had to produce an entirely separate slide assembly that's an insignificant .25" shorter before they got their act together with the 15 round frame. Utter madness. Someone at S&W needs flogged. There is virtually no reason to have 4" AND 4.25" slide assemblies.
And they still don't offer the 4.25" slide assembly on the 15 round lower. So dumb.

Mine broke in quick but they will be "harder" than M&P 1.0s - 2.0 has more parts in slide stop system to prevent the "auto forward" common to many 1.0s (a "feature" I actually liked on 1.0s).

It’s great until it doesn’t work which always happens at the worst possible moment. There are valid reasons auto forwarding is considered a malfunction for serious use but this is the main reason.

I have clocked somewhere north of 20,000 rounds on this firearm and my reloads end with the thumb at the slide release. I've never had a problem because I run it like any other pistol and it just most of the times makes an emergency reload incredibly fast.
Something I have noticed is the M&P Compact conceals better for me AIWB than a Glock 19. Two reasons I think — the slide is tapered in the back and the grip part of the frame is less blocky.

I had an early-ish 1.0 (~2006) that would auto forward and it was great... until the mag springs got weak. Then even (especially) with a firmly seated magazine it would auto-forward into an empty chamber. When I sold that gun it only had a little over 5k on it and it was already on its 3rd or 4th set of magazine springs.
Nice to know they fixed it on the 2.0s.

I get a little sad knowing any M&P2.0s I pick up will have "fixed" this behavior.
We have noticed the 2.0 we have is significantly harder to manually lock the slide to the rear for people who are predisposed to such issues. The M&P platform is great for recoil sensitive shooters with small hands. However, the 2.0 "fix" for auto-forwarding may have made the gun less user friendly to some of this demographic with regard to achieving manual slidelock. TANSTAAFL for us.
My 1.0 M&P9C has never auto-forwarded under normal conditions (I've never gone full looney tunes on it). It is also relatively easy to manually lock the slide to the rear.
My 2.0 compact has auto-forwarded while my daughter was using it. While I'm not positive, I think it was after a manual slidelock which failed to fully engage the notch. Herein lies the problem for us; she can perform this task reliably with the 1.0 Compact, but she has a lot more trouble with the 2.0 Compact, probably because they fixed it. She often has to try multiple times, and occasionally it seems not to fully engage.
1.0 M&Ps may be a better choice for people prone to this particular problem. At least it's worth considering for this demographic. I wish they had 1.0s with the 15 round frame.

Does conceal mo better than a 19.....no pointy magazine corners.
My sample was not consistently accurate as compared to my 19's
Passed 1911 extraction test....my 19's don't (no gen 5's).... likely don't matter...
Nice grip angle and trigger finger alignment ....Made Glocks feel awkward after shooting it for a while.
Manual safety was not very positive and a bit awkward to ride.

I agree, I think we tend to look at measurements like width of the gun as the maximum width at the one widest point. The widest part of the M&P is where the slide meets the frame, and the widest part of the G-19 is the bottom of the grip where it is poking out at your shirt. I do not carry mine appendix, but with a fifteen degree JMCK-IWB3 over at 3:00 it is probably as concealed as anything is gonna be.

I edited my post to add....when I bought my compacts and full size M2.0 guns I just purchased them retail because at the time retail prices were significantly cheaper than the LE prices. For instance my LE dealer for TN is Bud's Gun Shop and they were selling M2.0 Compacts super cheap a few years ago and the LE gun prices weren't subject to the same sale price so they were significant more. That might be different in current times.

This makes more sense to me now. These are the kind of deals I was finding and I thought I might be doing the LE pricing thing wrong. It may be discounted, but nothing like blue label discounts as far as I can tell.

I just bought a M&P 2.0 Compact 4" to replace my Glock Gen 3 G30S. I didn't want to have to rebuild a Glock Gen5 G19 just to make it work right, so the M&P seemed like a no brainer. I got the M&P for $470. plus tax out the door from a local gun shop.
The 2.0 Compact 4", looks good, feels good in the hand, and the trigger is worlds better than the serrated stock Glock triggers the G30S 45 ACP came with, that ate my trigger finger up.
I had to add a smooth trigger, a Ghost Connector, a Tango Down Vickers extended mag release, Ghost Bullet Forward Slide Release, Ameriglo Cap Night Sights, and a Grip Force 123 backstrap to the G30S just make it shoot-able for me.
I'm ordering some XS DXT2 Big Dot Yellows for the M&P, and a Frank Proctor SS Guide rod and spring. Leaving the trigger stock as it is for now, until I get a few hundred rounds down the barrel. The only negative is that slide stop/release is a ridiculous mother bear.

Current Gen 5's with the breach face cut are the most accurate and reliable Glock has made.
What you describe are things to accommodate how you choose to grip the gun.
I ran a G17 Gen 4 as a duty gun for 8 years. I rarely got slide lock on empty mags because I chose gripping the gun higher for better control at speed over reliable slide lock. The gun itself functioned as designed.
The Ghost Forward slide release made no difference. I have to go to a Kagwerks raised slide release if I want slide lock on a 9/40 Glock. But it's not the gun.
The 2.0 Compact is a good gun but "feels good in the hand" is irrelevant. Feelings lie.
Specifically, IME guns with flat sided grips (1911, Glock, CZ75 etc) track better in recoil when firing multiple shots / at multiple targets. The Feels good grips like the M&P 1,0, VP9 etc tend to squirm and track irregularly. The M&P 2.0 mitigates this with the more aggressive grip texture.
Another "feelings" issue is grip sizing on modular grip guns. I've seen multiple instances with Glocks and SIGs at work where officer picked the grip that "feels good" but when we had them shoot will all grip options, they actually shot better (measured time and accuracy) with a different size grip which didn't "feel" as good.

My "feelings" means I can reach and manipulate all the operating control's with shifting my firing grip, when actually firing it. I also tried firing the M&P with each of the supplied backstraps, to find the one that fit my hand and POA best. That's what I mean by "feels good in the hand".

If you want accurate information to suit yourself, please just ask for what you feel is missing from mine or any other post. I don't need or nor did I ask for a lecture on Glocks, Grips, Triggers or Feelings.
I never said my Glocks (G19, G23, and G30S, all Gen 3's) didn't function. I said they didn't function as they should for me, without modifications that on the whole I find unacceptable in a firearm that's now exceeding $600. in most places NIB for a Gen5 G19. Yes, I can buy Glock Blue Label, because I'm a veteran, but none the less the new prices are a bit outrageous for how much still needs to be done to "assuage my feelings". I got the M&P for less than $500. tax included.
And the first iterations if the G5 G19 were and are terrible, with the front mag cutout and lack of forward serrations. I shot one and did not like one bit. And the fact that Glock in it's infinite wisdom has decided we peasants don't need a manual safety even though they fully R&D'd one for the US Military contract that they lost.
I want, what I want, and if Glock or any other maker doesn't deliver, I'll just move on to one who will. "I want a manual safety, I need a manual safety" (cue "A Few Good Men voice over" )......
Maybe the M&P will also need some mods., but I don't know quite enough yet. I do know that the out the box the trigger is better feeling than that serrated monstrosity that Glock peddles, IMHO. The stock sights on the M&P are also useable, unlike Glocks where you have to bury half of the front dot to hit anything. I prefer night sights after all is said and done, so that cost is a wash between most Glocks (G19X being the exception) and the M&P.
So is all that "accurate enough information" or would need some more??
Please advise

The only negative is that slide stop/release is a ridiculous mother bear.[/QUOT

Leaving aside some of your choices on the Glock .45, I am curious why you are changing the RSA to an after market setup and your thoughts on Big Dits?
I shot a friends Big Dot equipped Glock G19 some years ago. I liked them then, but they didn't have a night sight version at the time. So I went with Ameriglo's CAP Lime Green Tritium Fronts and Hackathorn Rears on my Glocks and called them good enough, and didn't want to switch them out when XS added the Big Dot Nights Sights to their offerings.
Now I have a new pistol the M&P compact, and Big Dots can now Glow in the Dark, so I'm going to give them a try. I'm also 70 years old and bigger front sights is mo' better, if you catch my drift.
As far as the RSA, a friend of a friend & former student of Frank Proctor spoke highly of them. And for $50, I thought I give them a try, as I feel the M&P 9 is over sprung to beat the band. Again IMHO and YMMV. It may be a bust or it may be a pearl, and I've wasted more money on stupider things over a 52 year shooting career.
As far as my Glocks, I have 3 Gen 3's, all configured the same and to my liking, thank you. I don't ask that anybody to conform to what I think is best, on any firearm.
You can all make your own mistakes, as I make and will continue to make plenty.

Yes, I saw that, thank you. I'm not quite ready to do surgery on the offending "do hickey" I want to try the new RSA (might put less pressure on the dingus) and shoot at least 500 more rounds thru the pistol while I contemplate how I want to adjust, file, remove, or just sell the whole thing off, call it a failure and try something else.
Right now I can slingshot it with aplomb, so I'm content to wait a bit. Not my preferred method, but I can adapt as needed, until a quality solution either presents it's self or doesn't.

Lets see some pics of that mo fo , Bob.
In case it wasn't clear I accept that your initial post did not convey what you actually meant due to inaccurate language. It happens to all of us.
Nor am I a "Glocks are only the True Grail" fan boy having followed my Agency into SIG striker guns. Like the prior Berettas, HKs SIGs (and Ruger GP100) I was required to use, I take the John Lennon approach: I'm an artist, you can give me a tuba and I'll get you something out of it.
I prefer the smooth Glock trigger too but it's only a preference. It doesn't affect the function or mechanical accuracy of the gun. Same with Front cocking serrations (yes on optics guns, agnostic otherwise) and the front strap cut out (agnostic) though both were changed in 2020. The Front strap cut out in particular seems to be an I don't care or hate it position. I also may have put squares of sandpaper type grip tape right where front cocking serrations usually go. because I'm ghetto like that.
If it makes you feel better, the Glock serrated trigger is an artifact of US Import regulations (it adds points for the GCA '68 sporting purposes test). Glock put them into G19/26 to facilitate import, not because they thought they were a good idea.
Glock did finally fix the sight picture of their "ball in bucket" sights in the gen 5s but they're plastic so it's a bit of a pyric victory.
Glock's made at least four manual safety variants for the MHS and Foreign military and police contract, two thumb lever and two crossbolt types - they all suck. There is also a U.S. aftermarket thumb safety which also sucks. If I wanted a striker fired polymer gun with a safety I would absolutely buy a S&W or a SIG even if Glock offered a manual safety. Which might be why I started this thread a couple years ago.

I’m not so sure where the idea that a M&P 2.0 is over sprung to the point it needs an aftermarket RSA is coming from.
My agency has used M&P9’s so long that the first M&P 9mm T&E Guns we received were pre-production prototypes that came with an attorney bearing NDA’s. We are now on our third issue, which is the 2.0’s.
The RSA has never been an issue that I am aware of. Any manufacturer can have a part go bad on ONE particular pistol. Maintaining ONE personally owned pistol doesn’t effectively show if there is a problem with a gun’s design. Maintaining 1,100 + guns over a period of years tends to show if there’s a problem with a gun’s design. As I said, I’m not sure where the alleged issue with the OEM RSA is coming from. We have never seen an issue with that.
I’ve put just a few rounds through M&P9’s over the years. I’ve got a few rounds through my latest 2.0. The 2.0 isn’t a bad pistol. I personally own a 4” 2.0 compact. Only because I talked so much crap to our sales reps saying if S&W EVER made a Glock 19 size M&P, I’d buy one. So I did.
With that said, my off duty carry gun, and shortly my retirement carry gun is a Gen5 Glock 19. Both the Glock 19.5 and the M&P 2.0 Compact are good guns. At some point the deciding factor becomes personal preference.

I agree, I currently have seven of them, but probably have had a dozen or so over time. I put a lot of Apex parts in a lot of them, but the most recent one is a plain 5" 2.0 (#11989) that I intentionally left stock except the Dawson sights (fiber optic is pretty much not optional these days). This one has seen steady use, 50-100 rounds pretty much every week since Jan2019, and it gobbled up anything that fit in the magazine. A few months ago (when experimenting with rifle primers I got a few understandable misfires) I realized it was still using the original springs, and the striker had never been out of the slide. I wanted a fresh striker spring, and after doing the math that says it probably had 12k through it I figured $14 for another factory RSA was a reasonable spend. But at no point did it not work, including working my way through some loads that should not have worked.
ETA: Many of those loads that shouldn't have worked were some wimpier 115g loads that sure would not have worked if the RSA was too heavy.

Besides my issued guns, I’m at 3 COREs, a 2.0 compact, and I have another CORE on order as well as a 2.0 slide to play lego with certain configurations.
My carry gun right now is a 2.0 CORE slide with RMR (RM06) on the compact frame with a Floyd’s mag well.
I’m a big fan of the 2.0 but I will say it’s a whole different gun with a well-fit Apex barrel.
I saw in another thread you carry a 19MOS now.
What prompted the change for you?

When I posted in this thread, I’d been bouncing back and forth between the M&Ps and the same Glock I’m carrying now (A G19Gen4MOS with - at the time - a 1.0MOA RMR). I carried the Glock off duty for a couple months and then went back to the M&P for a couple months.
Soon after those posts we received some T&E holsters and began a pretty in-depth evaluation. The holsters were all for Glocks, so I started carrying Glocks on duty to evaluate the holsters. Add to that we were teaching a lot of outside personnel who were either issued or used Glocks and around a third of our own personnel who were going to optics were shooting Glocks, and it made sense to shoot them. Three of us teach the pistol-optic classes and one is a die-hard M&P guy so that base is covered. Further, the second half of 2020 was a pretty heavy training schedule with a 10-8 Performance red dot class, an FBI Firearm Instructor School, instructing a contract training class with several agencies that used Glocks, and I felt that switching guns wouldn’t be a good idea.
I’m confident with and used to my Glocks, but the reality is that while there are differences they are both reliable and durable pistols. I think factory Glocks are more accurate than factory M&Ps, but the M&P trigger and ergonomics are better. With an Apex barrel, the M&P is a beast. My Agency Glock’s ergonomics with the stippling and half-beaver tail blend rivals the M&P. I only have one M&P with an Apex and it rocks... If I got motivated to throw them in the other guns and had some time to play with them I very well could change my mind.
In short... they are both good guns and it’s personal preference which is better.
As you point out, the OEM barrels are not in the same league as a fitted Apex, but my main complaint is the stock trigger. Not weight, but the light and long pre travel, combined with breaking so far back. I hope they go to the Shield Plus trigger for 2022. In the interim, I am planning to install the same Apex FSS trigger I use in my CO pistols, but use heavy springs for EDC use. Interestingly, I can go from 5 inch CORE to Glock 19/23 with zero refam.

I have a little theory that the M&P CORE with a safety and Apex trigger bits and barrel is all the stuff people want out of the Stacatto but much cheaper and more reliable.

I seem to remember Duke coming to a similar conclusion.

I don’t like the apex parts over the stock performance center stuff and manual safeties are rated f for F that little switch.

You did feel the M&P offered a serious alternative to the 2011 stuff though right?

Yea but basically because the M&p works and 2011’s don’t lol.
But wtf do I know. I don’t even carry a gun anymore at this point

Your performance level speaks to you having a high knowledge level dude. I don't think thats up for debate, lol.
Glad to see you chiming in a little bit around here again.

The M&P with a thumb safety keeps tempting me.
