My trusty old Gen 2, 17. Been chopped and stippled, and slide was coated with Brownells Teflon Moly (Duracoat was kind of a new thing back then.), runs some G34 factory parts, and night sights.

Been a dependable pistol as long as I've had it. (Roughly 14 years.). Bought it for $275 as a pretty used up Police Trade in. Took it to the Glock factory when I was stationed in GA. Got updated parts, including the G34 parts at that time (2005/6ish).

Probably getting due for another slide coating someday soon.

My Glock family. I've traded the gray Gen4 19 up for the black Vickers gun in the second pic.

I used to love the Gen4 over Gen3 guns. But since I got the gray Vickers 19, I much prefer them over a Gen4. I don't like to have to modify my guns. The Vickers are generally pretty squared out of the box. The black one just needed a front sight, so I slapped a Warren Tactical fiber front on it to replace the gold bead front it came with.

Just checked. It is $115 with free shipping and now they're doing 10% off on orders over $100 so you get another $11.50 off. Here you go breakingtime91. Hope this helps. As far as comfort, I cannot tell the light is attached to the gun. The increase in width is to me unnoticeable. Concealment is just as good as the wing-claw w/o the light which was phenomenal.

If you like the Keroman you should try the Bawidamann Gotham.

I wasn't a fan of the integrated "claw" on the Keroman. It was so close to the loops/clips that it actually worked more like a wedge than a claw. This caused the holster to be a lot thicker in that position than it would if the claw was offset such as on the Gotham. Considering the holster already needs to be pretty thick for a X300u it just didn't work for me.

I looked at the Gotham and the Raven Eidolon. I chose these holsters for their narrower footprint.

My intensity setting is always turned way up ;)

^^Is some sort of shortened pre-travel the reason the SCD is sticking out?

Yes, it is a taudevgroup reduced pre-travel SCD which works perfectly with the Overwatch Precision trigger I have.

Gray222
08-23-2017, 04:05 PM
No, it's sticking out because he intentionally positioned it to stick out for the photo. The reduced pre-travel variant has the exact same range of motion as the non-reduced pre-travel one. The only difference is that the reduced pre-travel variant has had the "nose" of the SCD that protrudes into the striker channel shortened by 0.035" to accommodate the striker being further to the rear on guns using triggers that remove some of the trigger pre-travel.

Reduced pre-travel triggers could also be called striker pre-tension triggers as they reduce pre-travel by providing additional at-rest tension to the strikers.

Again, the SCD only sticks out because people intentionally position it that way to make it more easily seen in photos.

Yes this, if it seemed as though it did that on its own thats not the case as it's staged.

Glocks really aren't my thing, but it seems wrong not to own a couple. And since I use them so infrequently, I might as well modify them to fit well, so that I don't have to work so hard to shoot them.

My edc glock 19 has slowly evolved from bone stock to its current rendition, pictured below. It has had the following done:
Front cocking serrations added
Front of slide has been rounded
The muzzle has had a slight reverse crown Dawson Charger Sights have been added
Frame stippled
Trigger guard undercut
Finger grooves removed
Beavertail added
Cerakoted slide

The gun really fits my hand now and has proven reliable and accurate over the last couple of years.

Gun Grip Customs finished my G19.5 last night. Hoping my 17.5 will be done this weekend. I think it turned out great and he did exactly what I wanted him to with respect to the trigger guard undercut, trigger guard beveled edge and the stippling to the top of the frame hump where I apply downward pressure with my support hand thumb. This texture is also phenomenal. Have it done on my PX4s as well. All this gun needs now is a G5 Gadget and it'll be set.

G22 gen 2. This was a police trade-in I picked up for $300 just to have something in .40 in case there was ever a repeat of the 2013 ammo situation. Then I started reading the Lehigh field pistol thread and now I'm think about having a .40 that I'll actually use and shoot rather than collect dust so I'll probably sell this to get a Gen 4.

Sold the two Glocks I posted earlier. The G22 funded a gen 4 G22 police trade-in that's on it's way to my FFL and the G21 got sold last night so this morning I got this out of layaway. It's a used gun, it's dirty but very little wear.

I dumped two of my older gens to upgrade to 4's but I draw the line at replacing my trusty G17 that I actually shoot and didn't buy just to have. But next payday I'm ordering a 4th gen G17 trade-in if they have any left. If they don't the LGS has a 4th gen G26 for $400 that'll probably be coming home with me.

Couple of Glocks I've been experimenting on. The top is a Lone Wolf OEM-profile G17 slide with Glock OEM parts in it on a used G22 frame (awaiting a 9mm ejector). Grip chopped to take G19 mags, just finishing scalloping around the mag release, and heavily texturing the frame.

The bottom is a used Glock 19 Gen 3 all factory that had been refinished and textured when I got it. That's why it's so ugly. Then I chopped the frame to take G26 mags ( Glock 12 rounder in in now) and scalloped around the mag release.

For a couple of guns I got just to hack on and butcher, they're really starting to grow on me.

Those wear marks on the barrel remind me of the typical wear you see on a classic P series SIG barrel.

Yep. Just like the older Glocks. I had a Gen2 and an early Gen3 that did the same thing. Whatever they put on some of the Gen4 and 43 barrels is is tough stuff. I have over 4K on a 43 and no wear marks at all.

Tried some Magpul 21 rounders in my 19L FrenkenGlock. I only shot 150 rounds but it was Winchester Forged steel cased ammo, the cases are really gritty and rough and this stuff has a reputation for making guns choke. No problems other than the mags being hard to load.

I was hesitant when he said it was stippled, but when I saw it, the job seemed well executed, and it felt great in the hand. The trigger internals are factory, with the Apex shoe being the only change, and it has Trijicon HD's on it. For the price I paid, I'm pleased.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171123/f68365dde48c1393bd4141f6962fd784.jpg

I was hesitant when he said it was stippled, but when I saw it, the job seemed well executed, and it felt great in the hand. The trigger internals are factory, with the Apex shoe being the only change, and it has Trijicon HD's on it. For the price I paid, I'm pleased.

Why would someone stipple an RTF gun???

I like the way it turned out, looks good.
Probably to add some texture to the front of the grip after removing the finger grooves, and then figured they make the whole grip match. Also, RTF2 isn’t to everyone’s liking.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI would have left it stock, just because I prefer my frames untouched, and I don't mind finger grooves, but I must admit, the stipple job is more comfortable than the RTF texture. Honestly, I don't really care why he did it, I got a good deal on the gun.

I generally run 'em pretty wet. That barrel looked like that in about 1K rounds. It's at Robar for NP3 now...

https://photos.smugmug.com/Handguns/i-QNLDHQT/0/79dcef89/X2/IMG_3172-X2.jpgI'm been thinking about giving my G17 RTF2 the same NP3 treatment. How do you like it?
I think the areas that would really benefit are the firing pin block, the contact between it and the trigger bar, between the connector and trigger bar, and between the striker and trigger bar. Any other pluses?

I did it because of durability issues with the original plating. It did slick up the trigger pull a bit.

Robar won't do the striker for some reason.

Is your 17 a G5? The G5’s in my experience show noticeably more barrel wear than previous Glocks. I think it’s due to the hardness of the coating rather than tighter lockup.

Gen 4 19
- ZEV Pro Trigger (non adjustable)
- ZEV Trigger Spring
- ZEV Connector
- ZEV Extended Mag Release
- Dawson Precision Adjustable Sights

I really like wha the ZEV parts did with the trigger, it reminds me of a Geissele S3G.

In a few weeks I’m going to send it off to Mod 1 firearms to have them do:

- Full Slide Bevel
- Front Cocking Serations
- Double Undercut Trigger Guard
- Stipple
- Cerakote Slide (Gray)

I’ll possibly have them go ahead and mill the slide for an RMR as well and I may install a KKM threaded barrel as I plan to add a can down the road. However if it weren’t for the suppressor I’d leave it alone as the factory barrel seems to shoot just fine.....

3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 25 and 67 yards. POA/POI with the FBI sights that come on it. 67 yards is weird, I know, but it’s the physical limit of the indoor range I was at. It favors slightly left, when I don’t wang on the trigger.

Probably has to do with striker lug engagement w/ trigger cruciformI have read elsewhere that Robar won't do both sear and hammer in NP3 in the same gun, so they probably use that same logic for the striker if the trigger bar is coated.

Honestly, agreed. If I were to move to another carry platform it would either have to be able to accept the SCD or have an external hammer. The additional layer of safety while reholstering is simply not something I choose to go without. It’s yet another reason why I don’t carry my M&P Shield anymore.

I shot a 43 for the first time this weekend. It was surprisingly shootable. Snappier than my 19, but I wouldn't shy away from putting a box or two of ammo through it.

...it also shoots!

50 rounds each at 25,15, 7 (not all on this target)and some hits on 5" steel at 20 yards and "A zone" steel at 40 yards
Bills drills sub 3 seconds with runs reaching multiple .18 splits. (lost time was finding the dot on draw from an OWB holster)
All factory springs and so far reliable with my most common used ammo and with consistent recoil/ keeping dot in the window.

Also I did not re-zero the RMR for the new barrel. Hopefully soon, I can get some HSTs and make any minor adjustments. Still plan on at least 1000 rounds before I carry it again.

(2 hits in the 7 ring under the gun and 1 just below the target)

A nice Gen 3 Glock 35 I picked up at a bargain price from someone dumping their .40 gear for something more fashionable.
Had the slide milled for an RMR and fitted a KKM 357 Sig barrel.
Shoots like a laser. Won my first match with it, shot clean.
Now it sits as I'm recovering from hip replacement.

I have the stippling kit from OTD Defense. I used the finishing tip for the edges and the 20 LPI waffle tip for the rest of the main grip.

You can do it! My favorite carry configuration in a long, long time (since P226R & JRC CDAII). 508 holster with an upgraded Discreet Carry Concepts Mod 4 1.5" clip & vdevgroup wedge kit. Stays put, carries light, carries high(like I prefer) and retains the pistol well.

LR, good looking gun! But speaking of old friends, last week I took a trip back in time - bought my second G30S. I had sold the first one several years ago and almost instantly regretted it. I had changed a couple things: the usual inside polishing, put Talon grips on it, Ameriglo sights - and, I did some "plastic surgery" to a few areas. I've already done some work on this one. I don't know why I shoot this model and especially, this caliber better than others, but I do. Now, if memory serves, you have, or used to have one. I cannot believe how much I missed this firearm. I've been out of the "Glock loop" for awhile, but it seems to me that Glock made changes, did they? As good as the first one was, this gun just seems to work better. What can you tell me about this?

Lost River

11B,

I do in fact have a G30S and am carrying it today. In fact it gets carried quite a bit in the fall and winter/cold weather. I have a strong affinity for this model and believe if this G19 sized model had been out in the era of LE prior to 40s being the rage, then getting dumped like they were more socially unacceptable than Hillary at a Benghazi Survivors Convention, they would have been a huge hit.

But the fact is that 9mms are the "in" cartridge for anti personnel/defense purposes, and .45 is for "old guys", even though the same technology that made the 9mm now so deadly, has been applied to .45 projectiles too. I really think this model shines in a role for people who want a gun to serve dual roles as an outdoors gun, for a lightweight hiking/hunting sidearm where they may encounter large aggressive animals, or may work around large livestock.

People always talk about not needing large cartridges because there are no large animals in their AO, but completely fail to recognize the fact that large livestock can be and IS deadly and will injure/maim/kill you just as quick as your typical black bear/mountain lion/grizzly. A BUNCH of guys get injured by vehicle struck cattle/horses etc every year, and a mad, injured cow is no joke. I have put more than a couple down and they can be a bit sporty.

Anyways, the G30S is a sleeper in my view. It is a G19 sized, easy shooting, easy packing platform. I do not know about any upgrades from the first G30S' that you make mention of, but others may chime in that are more "in the know" about such things. I know I really like mine for wolf country where there are lots of fast moving targets and I may have a pack frame full of elk meat and 6 rounds of .44 magnum may be gone in a couple of seconds, then things could get ugly. They make a lot of sense.

https://i.imgur.com/JFF7PvR.jpg

For a guy who only wants one sidearm to serve as a CCW, and hiking handgun, they could do far worse.

Oh, I also did some "plastic surgery" on mine to get a higher grip. Then scuffed up the front strap, removed the finger groove. It really made a difference.

Cheers!

Hemmed and hawed for weeks whether to send my ol' 17.3 off to a pro stippler, do it myself or leave her alone. Finally took the plunge myself.

After a good couple hours of Dremeling and sanding, I took the soldering iron to it. Also contoured & polished the triggerguard. Looks decent. Feels great in hand while manipulating and firing.

Doubt I'll have anyone knocking on my door to stipple their frames, but I'm very glad I didn't throw $300 at a pro for this. Yeah, they'd make it look much better, but not $300 better. I'm quite content.

Sorry I missed your post, thanks for the info on yours. If I ever take the time to figure out how to post pictures here (pathetic, isn't it?), I want to post a picture of the job done by a guy in Virginia named D.R. Middlebrooks, who does custom work on Glocks. Or, better yet, you can check his site: tacticalshooting.com. The one thing he does that I need to have done - is the "scalloping" procedure to get better access to the mag catch release. It's certainly within the abilities of anyone who has used a Dremel. It's still hard for me to believe that I sold my first G30S.

If you do any more updates, please let me know.

Also, this is my first post here or on any forum ever. So, hello I guess and sorry for my mediocre photography skills.

Well the GL-452 Ameriglo sights were too short for even the small diameter Ti-Rant 9S. I installed the Night Fision sights tonight and they work perfectly. The good news is the 452’s work like a charm on my G21 with an Osprey.

I am thinking that my plan to get an Omega 9K down the road will require even taller sights - like the Ameriglo 582’s which will look like shark fins. Makes me wonder what folks with slide mounted optics do if they run a can...

As already posted the slide stop is Kägwerks. I like it a lot after a few days of messing around with it. No fit issues as far as Safariland 7TS, don’t own any other holsters to comment on at the moment. Pictures make it seem awkward but it’s in a really good place and function is exactly what you’d want, out of your way, but easy to reach when you need it. They have plans for Gen 5 and 43 models, they’ll be going on all of my future Glocks.

As far as the Mayhem-Syndicate comp, it’s my only experience with comps in general but I think Mayhem has the best attachment method on the market. This was from their first run what they now call their “cali-comp” but I have their MK2 on order for a Glock 45 I’ll be picking up. I think it works great and was a noticeable difference the first time I shot with it, recoil feels very flat in contrast to no comp, more of a push back than any flip, fit’s all of my 17 holsters, no set screws, etc, a lot of positives with no downsides that I’ve found. They confirmed 43 barrels are coming as well, so I’ll have these on at least 19 43 and 45

Dave at gunfuofficial.com did the chop/stipple. He was able to make this, and a 19 point the same

I attempted something along the same theme---sans chop and a true reduction---and was lucky to come up with this very modest result.

I had a Glock 19.4 that had significant wear on the slide from it's kydex holster. The gun had thousands of rounds through it and for a time was my duty weapon. I've always wanted to try Robar's NP3 and this seemed like a great excuse. Checking their site I saw they have a newer, better version called NP3+ so I sent in the slide.

https://robarguns.com/custom-firearm-finishes/np3-plus/

Got it back and it looks incredible! Not that appearance is the most important thing, but the finish is smooth as butter, even, and looks like it left the factory this way. They reinstalled all the slide parts and my sights. I will be hitting the range this weekend to make sure it functions - though I have no doubt it will.

I've always liked the way stainless slides look on black framed pistols. I missed out on getting an HK USP in stainless so the Glock was my next best option. Turn around was quick and painless - I will do business again with Robar. I have no connection to the company at all other than being a satisfied customer.

El Cid, I've always been a fan of Robar and your experience seems to be the norm there. I share your affinity for the stainless slide on the dark grip. Yours looks great - thanks for the picture! I know of a certain G30S that just might find itself getting the same treatment.

Picked up a blue label G17 Gen 5 MOS - they were only available with the Bold sights. The rear hangs off the back but this is a factory configuration.

This illustrates why I personally won’t buy a MOS...

I bought the MOS to put an optic on it and my preference would have been to buy it with the standard plastic sights since I plan to co-witness sights on it.

Standard Glock night sights, CAPs, Hackathorns, Defoors etc would be fine. I just thought it was interesting Glock was putting this out as a factory combo.

I will shoot it like this today but once the co-witness sights come in the BOLDS will likely go on the 19x.

I typically don't get slide bite with my 19 or larger frame guns, but I breaking in a new 26.5 a few days ago and got some serious slide bite when shooting hot defensive ammo. This isn't a gun I intend to carry or shoot very much so it doesn't bother me too much. I am happy that this thing shoots very well for its size, much better than I shoot a G43. Below is a group and a called flyer at 25 yards to end my session.

Well I gave in and joined the cool kids. Better late than never I suppose. It’s an RMS Shield and the slide cut was done by Battle Werx. I won’t be able to shoot it until the weekend.
