Knock at the door leads to bizarre shooting of homeowner

The homeowner answered the door to a suspicious looking man who asked to use their phone. The homeowner said no and then the stranger started shooting through the screen door.

The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning on 100 block of Highway Drive on the city's east side.

At least six shots were fired by the suspect and the victim was able to shoot back at least three times
Supposedly the suspect knocking on the door was asking to come in and use the phone.

At 0430 I'm also gonna have a gun. In my hand.
(and be talking to them through my doorbell, of course)

Man reportedly wearing body armor, taking photos of schools is shot dead

Police in northern Illinois shot and killed a man suspected of taking photographs of schools while apparently wearing body armor Wednesday morning after a struggle, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Officers responded in Zion around 8:30 a.m. after a man was reportedly spotted taking photos of local schools, according to a statement from the Lake County Major Crime Task Force.

“The suspicious person was located by officers and a foot pursuit ensued,” the statement said. “It appeared the offender was wearing body armor. After the foot pursuit, a struggle with the offender and officers ensued, which resulted in the offender being shot.”

Officers at the scene tried to keep him alive, authorities said, and the man was then taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Given the San Bernadino cell's recon of the local high school, I would be very interested to see who the suspect was and what he was up to.

And the new (1 week) Philadelphia mayor initially tries to make it an issue for the government needing to reduce the amount of guns available. I have not heard anything more about that since they released it was a stolen PD gun. New mayor lesson number one, get the facts before you make a stand.

Tremendous job by the officer to chase and engage despite being seriously wounded.

Did I read that right? Gunman fired thirteen shots and what appears to be bad breath range and the officer was only struck three times in the arm? Sucks he got shot, but could have been a lot worse.
