Thread: Freestyle shooting at 25 yds revisited

P30L with Trijicon HD-XR’s (yellow), GG SRT and 11 lb mainspring, 8.5 lbs DA and 3.5 lbs SA. 124 gr S&B. Failure drills at 20 yards with all first shots from DA. This was after 50 rounds warmup of just doing precision DA shots. Typical 3-round strings from concealment (AIWB) in around 5 seconds, with a ~0.65 split on the controlled pair and a full second on the head, so not real fast.

Been working on my iron shooting after a few years of red dot. It’s nice to find that it has actually enhanced my iron work, which hasn’t been particularly outstanding in lower level light in a few years now.

I would say I need additional work under time pressure, that group being somewhat low-left is a strong indicator. Things do get quite ugly if I push for a 2.5 second PAR at that distance. However, I suppose it’s “good enough” for the purpose.

Last week I ran a dovetail mount RMR on the same pistol and took a full second off the time required for slightly better results. And I can run a VP9 with RMR consistently two seconds faster for similar results. But, I like the challenge here.

    10 @50

I'm happy with a 90 at 25 most days, at 50 I'm ecstatic at this point in my adventure.

The circled connected hits reflect 3 strings of five, each string fired in 15-20 sec double action from 25 yds. My boyhood K22 (1968).

Trying a Holosun CO (the donut reticle, no center dot) on top of a G5G34.

Jesse posted pics of this reticle:

2 groups on here, the circled shots were after adjustments. That group is 95-3x. Not bad, first time shooting this Glock in over a year.

Watershed moment for me...I FINALLY got 10 on paper AND scored above 90 for the first time today. 92-3X with Glock 34, HS 507c, Apex trigger, Glock store tungsten guide rod, seeing eye dog...(*) But seriously, this is very very good for me:

    * Just kidding about the dog. Actually, I was in the department store the other day, and saw a blind guy with a lovely guide dog in a harness. Suddenly, he takes the dog and swings him around his head by the leash. The store clerk rushed up to him and said, "Sir! Can I help you!?" Guy said, "No, I'm just looking around."

I've been practicing a lot more 25y B8s, especially after a Kyle DeFoor class last fall.

My best groups have been with my regular carry G19, Primary Machine RMR milled, KKM barrel setup.

Had a nice 100, 4x this week. Groups tighten up for me with 147 HST.

Great shooting. I think that’s actually a 5x. One of the X ring hits is a double. Otherwise there are only 9 holes.
