Probably too long for here. Anyways, I'm working for the SO one night and get dispatched to an MV versus deer. I get there and find that the quintessential soccer mom has, indeed, hit a doe with her SUV, causing minimal damage to the SUV. On the other hand, the doe's rear legs aren't working, she's trying to drag herself through the ditch using front legs only.
I ask soccer mom to pull up the road about a hundred yards, telling her I'll join her there to complete the accident report. So, I tell the deer I'm sorry, and put it down with a 158gr JSP. Immediately after the shot I hear a scream, mom has gotten out of the SUV. 'You killed it!' I tried to explain that the deer was suffering and that euthanizing it was the most humane thing to do. She was upset that a vet hadn't been called. I didn't ask her if she wanted the meat.
