Huge LOTR fan since about 1978 who is very scared of what they are going to do to it.
This. Modern adaptations tend to produce more misses than hits. Dramatically more, and the misses aren't close ones. I have minimal faith that this is anything other than Amazon attempting to cash in on Tolkein's work while phoning in the actual work.Originally Posted by MVS

Tolkien’s estate kept them on a pretty tight leash. Maybe it will work out; the writers and directors seem to be a bunch of secular muggles, but that was true of Jackson and crew and they didn’t trash it.

They came pretty close with Five Armies IMHO……
I share others concerns about the injection of modern sensibilities, most of which run counter to Tolkien’s own as you well know.
The "Hobbit" movies were shockingly bad.
