Yesterday I shot our local monthly handgun match. I normally shoot my 26 but yesterday decided I would try my 19. I felt like I did pretty good and felt I did better than when shooting with my 26. When I got the results of the match it appears I am about the same with one as the other. I hover around the halfway point in ranking. We normally have 20-24 shooters and I always end up around 10-12. My biggest focus isn’t the gun but accuracy because a miss here and there can ruin an otherwise decent score. I really need to run both guns in the same drill back to back to see which I actually shoot better and commit to that gun. Eventually I’ll go back to my 34 but I enjoy shooting a carry gun.

At the end of our session today I ran a friend's 43x. It has shitty glock night sights but I shot it well enough. 100 on the test using my g19 holster as a gun bucket. I really need to get one of these. Ran fine with shield arms mag today.

Otherwise I ran my g19 with glock performance trigger, grip anchor, and holosun. Modified lapd swat qual and Gabe's test were the bulk of it. Digging the gpt more and more.

8th and final week of pin league. Tonight's theme was neon / disco. Green pin to start, orange stop pin. Did 2 runs with the P2000sk LEM, shot a 9.01 and a 9.06, happy with the consistency but had an extra shot on each run. Ruger MKII suppressed with Riton MPRDv2 was shot in 7.81. Glad to see a very small performance gap going from a subcompact iron, to rimfire dot within the lighting conditions.

Of note, with the Night Fision front and blacked out 10-8 rear on the P2000sk, I had to use reactive shooting vs predictive. The rear provided little feedback unless the pin was in the .125 w U-notch.

With the MKII, I had to aim at the right side of the pin to spin it off.

With the disco lights and neon, multiple dot shooters (and irons) struggled with aiming. The question was raised how some might do with flashing blue and red, as found during a traffic stop in a LEO context.

Looks like I'll take first out of about 20 shooters, regardless of class. Pleased with the league, and overall improvement of those in attendance.

Also shot a MPA open gun in 9mm major, and a Smith 43c.

I went to an outdoor range today to vet some magazines. The pistol range was closed for some NRA instruction at noon, which is when I normally shoot. The rifle range opened at noon so opted for that. I haven't been on the rifle range since last fall so way overdue. I had new mags for a Ruger Mini-14 and some mags for an M-1 carbine that I'm trying to sort out. The good news is the Ruger mags work flawlessly but the M-1 mags are suspect. These are USGI WW2 mags. I kept getting a failure to eject last round on several of those. I'm not sure if it's the mags or the bolt. I rebuilt the bolt with new parts about 2 years ago. The bolt catches the last case on return to battery. I think it's the bolt so will strip it again and use new parts. That's the reason I bought the Mini. It just shoots every time and 220 yd 18" plates ring every shot. Although the M-1 carbine is unreliable it impresses me with the fact it can do the same thing without a 4x scope, just irons. I think Audie Murphy knew that a 4 moa rifle works pretty well in combat if you know how to shoot it.

On Weds i took two 6.5 Creedmoor bolt guns (Bergara HMR Pro and B14 Ridge) out to the range. Had just gotten them back from my gunsmith who is excellent (Fritz Ahlquist at Black Canyon Customs - HIGHLY recommend). He did the following work:

    1. Re-barreled my HMR Pro with a Preferred Barrel Blanks 24" prefit.
    2. Took the factory HMR pro barrel, chopped to 20", recrowned/threaded, and installed on my B14 Ridge
    3. Cerakoted the Ridge + chopped HMR barrel in Tungsten and skim bedded it in the HMR Pro stock that I had put the Ridge in
    4. Reinstall YHM muzzle devices

Sort of wish I had him cerakote the HMR Pro action at least but meh. Whatever. Looks fine.

Beyond that vague regret, however, I am beyond satisfied. I had this work done because neither gun would group well consistently, and both heated up very quickly when shooting with a can. Wouldn't reliably do better than 1 MOA, usually 1.5-2.

Using the same ammo, I am getting sub MOA with both guns (see photos). So happy.

Was a beautiful day at the range, and was very happy with my shooting. Still far from an expert rifleman - these were my best groups of the day, to be clear. However it did prove that these guns can shoot better than me, which is what I've wanted all along.

The next thing I really need to do is get into reloading... but that will definitely have to wait for later.

G17 Gen 4, stock, irons at USPSA small match. Ran well, no hiccups. Good hits, slow pace, bad knee, limping around (wah, wah).

This was actually last night. Took my SCT frame out and ran it with my 19L and my Lucky 7’d 19 top ends. Chasing a sub 10 second Casino drill. Getting closer.

Participated in the local bullseye match today. Scored 820 with the .22LR Ruger Mark II/Volquartsen complete 22/45 frame with a C-More 6 MOA dot. Shot a 780, IIRC, with the above 6" Clark Custom Colt longslide in .45 ACP using a 185 gr JHP over 5.2 grs of W231. I love the way this load and pistol combination shoots. Very soft shooting with a comforting smooth "ker-chunk" cycling.

After shooting the match I wanted to check for POI of the Dawson Precision BUIS' I installed on my G34.5/509T Holosun MOS 509T adapter plate. As the range got busy fast, I only fired a handful rounds and found that they went into the 8 ring or better of the slow fire 25 yard bullseye target at 25 yards.

I shot a local monthly USPSA match. Second target on the first stage is a pepper popper at ~15 yards, and I took something like eight or ten shots to knock it down. My raw time should've been about 10-12 seconds faster than it was. I have two identical Carry Optics G17s, so I went to the safety area and swapped guns. The rest of the match went fine. I'm going to rezero the first gun tomorrow afternoon and I hope the sight is off because I'm going to feel real bad about my shooting if it's not.

My usual Sunday morning range visit:
    Marvel Precision Unit#2 1911-22 Conversion Unit mounted to a Norinco M1911A1, Ro-Co stocks, Brownell’s 1911-22 poly magazines.
3rd Series Colt Woodsman Match Target. Herrett’s stocks.
