A member of U.S. Navy SEAL Team Six was killed and three others were wounded in a raid against a group of senior Al Qaeda leaders in central Yemen, officials said.

The U.S. Central Command said in a statement Sunday that another service member was injured in a "hard landing" in a nearby location. An MV-22 Osprey aircraft used in the raid was unable to fly afterward and "was then intentionally destroyed in place."
Three other American troops, members of a Navy SEAL unit, were wounded in the operation on Saturday against members of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula. The militant organization has remained a potent threat amid an extended civil war in Yemen.

According to The New York Times, commandos from the Navy's SEAL Team 6, which is based in Virginia Beach, carried out the raid.

While I'm a supporter of Trump's plan to really crush ISIS/Al Qaeda, this is a solemn reminder of the costs of that decision.

RIP and thoughts/prayers to his family.

No disrespect to the dead or wounded, but it would be nice to know how successful the SEAL raid was against the Al Qaeda leaders.

May he rest in peace and may his family be consoled. I wish, however, that Washington would stop leaking which units are involved in these operations. There are some very good reasons to keep that information confidential, but too many in Washington want to show that they are in the know about top secret operations so they leak.
