Nothing wrong with issue fore end for your stated use. The Magpul fore end isn’t a bad choice either.
I prefer the T/H type Aimpoint sights over the PRO, but either works. I’d suggest replacing the carry handle with whichever BUIS you plan on using and shoot with those until you can get the optic you choose.
Keeping an eye out for pre-owned PRO right now. Swapping the plastic Magpul rear out for a steel Magpul pops had laying around.
How would I mount a Scout M600U to the stock handguard? I’m assuming something that can bolt onto the vent holes but that seems iffy.
Thank you all for helpful replies.
There are light mounts that work off the bayonet lug and others that bolt up to the front sight A Frame. I’ve seen others that were basically a hose clamp type apparatus around the stock fore end. The Magpul fore end with a section of Pict rail may be the best option for attaching a WML.
BTW Congrats on a great deal on a solid rifle!
You can also get a number of mounts that will clamp around the front sight base. I have this one from Midwest Industries:

It works splendidly for accommodating a typical Surefire light that is easily activated with your forward hand.
