    Woodpeckers...

Have a wood pecker that enjoys beating on my gutter at 7am. Anyone recommend a service in NoVA to come take a look? Anyone have experience deterring them?

Air rifle? Maybe an airsoft if you don't want to kill it.

Call your local Fish & Game or Forest Service biologist, they may have some guidance.

What species? They are usually pretty spot-on when looking for food so I would examine a probable food source.

Yes, I have a solution that worked for us. We had some that were drilling into our siding. I tried to get out there to annoy them with an airsoft gun but they flew away when I simply appeared in the yard. I read up on it and found that they were scared of owls. It was suggested that pictures of such would deter them. I printed out full color pictures of owl heads, emphasizing their eyes. We put them in the 2nd floor windows near where they used to peck. They didn't come back. The pictures get looks from the neighbors and I explained they evoked ancient gods to deter the minions of Cthulhu.

Put a feeder with a suet block out. Enjoy watching the woodpeckers. I've got three species that visit my feeders, and since they'd much rather eat the suet and seed blocks than peck on my house, everyone's happy.
Sorta around sometimes for some of your shitty mod needs.

We have tons of 'em around here. My favorites are the pileated. Never get tired of watching / listening to them.

Pileated peckers are amazing. Huge bird. The flickers peck holes in our siding and hammer the gutters. I figure that’s a small price to pay for being close to nature.

It is truly amazing how fast they (pileateds) will work when they hit pay dirt. Little crested crackheads with chisels. Many inexperienced hikers think they see damage from bears on the trees where the pileateds have been.
