My biggest worry would be the throat dimensions on that one. Otherwise, such potential.

I dont know how the throats ran in those from that period, but being one of their top target pistols, Id guess they are pretty decent. ive had a couple in the distant past, they shot extremely well, as have all I knew of from others.

In my case, it would also be a way to use some of my 45 auto ammo without having to shoot an auto pistol. I think i still have half moon and full moon clips for that model.

Old school with taped grip and all.
Was that barrel long enough to stabilize the bullets? I have some dim recollection of someone mentioning that was a problem with short-barreled .45 ACP revolvers.
If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.

Can be, but not with correct ammo selection and gunsmith adjustment. Groups from my 2-3/4" New Service posted earlier were samdbagged at 25 yards. No issues.

It can be a problem. Out of my 2" converted Colt 1917, standard 230 grain FMJ has a tendency to keyhole. 200 grain does fine. I generally don't shoot unjacketed bullets but presumably matching the bullet to the throat size would help. Hollow base bullets also seem to help.

Update. I posted this previously in another thread, but for anyone following here who missed it, Sandy. Garrett of NoVA Gun Works completed the rebuild of my .455 pocket blaster. When the original barrel was pulled to set back to correct a loose barrel-cylinder gap Magnaflux inspection revealed a crack at the root of the thread, and the original barrel was scrapped.

A 3-1/2" piece of new Douglas barrel was fitted, end shake and timing corrected, trigger pull adjusted to produce a 3-1/2 pound break in single-action and hammer throw adjusted to produce 0.012" indent on copper in DA. A new front sight was fabricated and silver soldered, the gun targeted for point of aim to be point of impact at 25 yards with factory Fiocchi and then gun was matte blued.

Here is the finished piece. Fiocchi ammo gives 695 fps from the 3-1/2" barrel with cylinder gap pass 0.005 / hold 0.006".

The expanded bullet is Speer 250- grain Deep Curl loaded in Starline .455 MkII case with 4 grains of Bullseye, 650 fps expanding to 0.65" and stopping in 4th gallon water jug.
