As much as I cling to shooting acoustic I definitely do better with a RDO. I can still keep an iron sighted defensive pistol minute of pie plate at reasonable distances but a dot speeds me up and improves my accuracy. I’m also having a bit of a .45 ACP 1911 renaissance and would like to investigate 5” RDO options.
The goal is not to fling money around (I’m jonesing for a Staccato C too, that would be a money sponge) but also don’t want to create a science project. I was considering having an existing Ruger LW milled, but now I’m leaning to a new less expensive pistol that’s ready to mount up.
A DW Specialist Black OR is tempting, but it’s a lot of coin. I’m actually waiting to see substantiative reviews of the new SIG 1911-XFULL with or without their ROMEO-X premounted, I suspect these will settle in the $1400 range with RDO after a bit. Cutting my Ruger LW would be $350 including plates plus the cost of an optic, so the SIG price doesn’t look horrible.
Any other suggestions on lower market optic ready .45 ACP 1911s to consider? This isn’t anything I need to do in a hurry.
