I don't dislike Roy Orbison's original because he had such unique quality to his voice. But Van Halen replaced that with killer instrumental arrangement and hit it out of the park. The music video was hilariously '80s MTV cheesy weird though.

Guns 'n' Roses doing "Live and Let Die" is way better than Wings, and their cover of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" is maybe not better than Bob Dylan's original, but it is really good in a different way, and is much, much better than Clapton's cover of the song.
I like Garth Brooks's rendition of, "Walkin' After Midnight," better than Patsy Cline's.
I find Vixy & Tony's version of, "Dawson's Christian," preferable to Duane Elms's original.
Already been covered, but worth re-iterating, IMO:
The Dead South's cover of, "You Are My Sunshine," really lets the creepiness of the lyrics stand out.
And now for something completely different: A French-based Nordic folk band sings, "Seven Nation Army," (in English).
And remember when demons and beasts cast their darkness, you have God's love - and Browning's wrath - to guide you.
I can't believe George Thorogood hasn't been mentioned yet.
Great cover of the Aerosmith classic "Dream on".
"Knowledge is good." Emil Faber, date unknown.
Some well known and lesser known talent covering "Jane" from Jefferson Starship. The singer, Dino Jelusick sings, plays keys and bass.
Another of the same kind of performance. The singer is pretty impressive. The cover is the Triumph classic "Lay it on the line"
"Knowledge is good." Emil Faber, date unknown.
Anybody's cover of Hurt is better than the original, but Mumford and Sons' is the best.
Disturbed, The Sound of Silence
Eddie Vedder, My City of Ruins
Paula Nelson, Have You Ever Seen the Rain

No love for The Bangles doing "Hazy shade of winter" ?
I also like Devo over Sam and Dave for "Workin in a coal mine"
I don't like this better than the original, but I like it a lot.
