Picture I didn't take tonight: we're renting a condo in Gatlinburg TN for a few days. We were in the parking garage about 1830, starting to walk down to the main drag for dinner, when a black bear and half a dozen cubs came sauntering up the street and into the garage. My wife and grandson were high tailing it out the other side so I really couldn't stop for a good pic. I've seen bears at my dad's old place on a mountain in Asheville but I've never seen them in such a populous area. I told my wife there was no way mama had the energy to chase people after taking care of all those cubs, but I'm glad we didn't have to find out.

I don’t have a good pic of it, but a lot of the Malta countryside is 100% terraced. Hard to imagine how many back-breaking hours went into that over the centuries.
