Moved to Huntsville need a place to shoot

Moved for work to Huntsville, AL.

Anyone in the area or anyone know of a place to go shooting in the Northern AL area?

    Thanks.

I think all the pistol matches are still at Cavern Cove and down I-65 a ways in B'ham / Steel City. Larry's weekday matches, Hartselle and Arab all shut down years ago. Maybe someone still local can comment on Hobbs Island? IDK how that worked out.

For square range I think Larry's and Swan Creek are still the bigger two? I don't know what the state of Skyline or Last Resort is. The latter was pretty swanky inside. I hear Swan Creek has full time attendants now and has improved considerably.

How do you @ someone with a space in their name? @Jim Watson would know more.

I live in Florence, just fixing to go to the indoor range 'cause there is more rain in the forecast than I will travel to a mach for tomorrow. Comments when I get back.

In the meanwhile what does "go shooting" mean to you? I am on the lookout for IDPA and USPSA matches and practice for same, occasionally some Steel Challenge.

I am trying to find a place to shoot and train. Moving to a new pistol from my HK P2000 and Glock 19.

Just trying to find a place where i can shoot and not be criticized that I am not a 1911 or bolt action guy.

I was thinking about hobb island.

Hobbs Island Shooting Range is a large facility with multiple ranges and bays.
It is a "membership" operation with no daily or hourly rental, pretty expensive.

Cavern Cove promotes their various matches, you can with advance notice get in on an off day if a "member."

I have not shot at Swan Creek or Skyline but pictures look like WMA Freedom Hills where I have been.
OK range and all you need is a hunting license.

Larry's Ammo Dump, Last Resort, and Bullet & Barrel are typical indoor lane rental ranges, not a lot of flexibility except Last Resort Tactical Tuesday and USPSA Wednesday.

As jp9 said, the clubs at Arab and Hartselle are defunct. There used to be a range at Manchester TN, but their FB is silent since 2019 and their www is gone.

Don't worry, nobody will hooraw you about your guns.

I lived just west of Athens for fourteen years. The best public outdoor range was at the Swan Creek WMA, but the hours were spotty and it was often closed due to weather as the land is prone to flooding. Another option is to do what I did; purchase land and setup your own range. I shot in my backyard for years, and several of my neighbors also had outdoor ranges on their property.

My understanding is that with the influx of .GOV jobs to Huntsville real estate has gotten a wee bit pricey.

It is getting up there but the trend is reversing.

So as a site supporter why don’t I have access to any other spot that I had as a non site supporter. I do not have access to anything else. I guess i should Request a refund.

Partly I left because of the Rinos in Nova who are gun owners and the liberals in DC. When I got back from deployment number 9 it was sell the Nova house and move and make more money and get away from the people that go my brother is the best but i never Did anything but cheat on *******
