Thread: What did you shoot today?

  1. #1541
I checked the zeros on my Ruger American Ranch 300 Blackout and my 300 AR pistol for an upcoming outing. I’ve shot mostly 9mm since retiring so I put a few mags through the M&P40 2.0 Compact I’ll be taking ( hunting partner carries one); and a couple cylinders of wadcutters through my newer 642. I was reminded that the trigger on the newer 642 is nowhere near as good as the one I bought in the early 90s.

The AR50 recoils less than a 12ga slug from an auto loader. 37 lbs will do that. Everyone had smiles, it was a beautiful day at the range.

    I can pee outside.
Sunday I did an impromptu "food court /distance drill"... cold.
40 yard target stand, with my 92x Centurion. RMR is a 7moa.
First shot was double action, low on the target.
Following 9 were with the butt of the pistol rested on the bench, standing, just bent to get the sights.
Could not do it again as well on two more attempts.

Escapee from the SF Bay Area now living on the Front Range of Colorado.
Not today, but last week was able to get out to the Cheyenne Mountain Shooting Complex and do some rifle work as well as verify my zero on my S&W 10mm after replacing the sights with night sights.

Definitely a nice range but since it is a military range open to the public there are a lot of restrictions including no holster work or rapid fire. Need to find a good outdoor range or at least a secluded area in the National Forrest to practice rifle drills.

Still I was able to get what I wanted done and enjoy the immense beauty of the Pikes Peak region.

I’d say the 10mm sights are on. Unfortunately I damaged the front sight when installing by using the wrong pusher on the MGW Range Master. I ended up bending the base by not paying attention and broke one of the wings off. I JB welded the wing back on and then used some blue loctite to ensure the sight stayed put. In the end it held firm with over 100 rounds (most full 10mm) so I’m pretty sure it will hold. That said I gave Trijicon a call and told them what I did and they were kind enough to approve a front sight replacement! So another range trip will be in order.

Also had a chance to fire my “Hannibal Smith” Mini-14 for the first time. This configuration would make me a felon in Kalifornia. I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER!!!

If you are in the Colorado Springs area-

There was the Rampart Range near Garden of the God's that was open to the public but it may have been shutdown by the forest service.

That is shut down now from what I heard but Turkey Tracks should still be open. It’s of 67 between Woodland Park and Deckers.

    I miss Colorado…
