You have the option to set what level of location tracking is enabled in the settings on the app, and can turn it off entirely, allegedly.

One thing that might be an area of concern is it includes a built in vpn, which absolutely would be routing all your traffic through Google, presumably. You can turn that on and off though. I use it for public wifi, etc but otherwise no.
