To be fair, when I was in HS back in the late 80's, early 90's, a lot of us were into music like the Doors, Led Zep, Rush, Hendrix, and other stuff recorded well before the year of our birth.

Sometimes, the music foisted on your generation just plain sucks.

High school from 79-82.
80s big hair, day glo and wham...... Sucked.
We listened to Allman bros, Clapton, Marshall Tucker, Pure Prairie League, Zeppelin, Stones, Eagles, and other artists as such.
That pop shit was for the birds..... As was the disco before it. Boycotted disco with the Grateful Dead.

I was driving around with a 20-something friend, and Boys of Summer came on. She asked what a deadhead sticker was. I said, well, when it was covered by the Atari's later, it was a Black Flag sticker...and that doesn't help, does it?

I was sent home several times for my DISCO SUCKS belt buckle (HS 77-80.) Also my seasonal mistletoe belt buckle.

My discovery of 80s thrash metal was a direct result of the rise of nu-metal around 2000.
