    Comments:
I had to report One Failure to Fire. The reason was a dead primer. We tried to fire the round in a H&K USP and in a Tanfoglio. The round never went off.
The Glock fired around 11000 round before and was cleaned and lubricated rarely

After hitting the 500 round mark, it would fail to lock back on an empty mag about every hundred rounds. Rounds were all fired at a tactical pistol class this weekend. Interestingly enough, you know the guy that taught the class, Todd, or at least he remembers you: Jason Falla.

Prior to this (well, including the first 500 rounds on the 26th), I had about 2100 rounds with 0 stoppages, 0 malfunctions, and 0 breakages with my normal cleaning schedule, which consists of a bore snake every 100-200 rounds (i.e., every range session or two) and cleaning every 300-400.

    40 - 124 gr. Supreme Elite™ Bonded PDX1 +P

    Comments:
I always told my Ohio CHL students that I never fully trusted a gun until you could run 500 rounds through it continuously in an afternoon without cleaning or a single problem. I have two Ruger SR9's. This one was taken out of the box, brand-new, it was not cleaned - ever. I checked the gun over, checked the bore and then proceeded to shoot 500+ rounds per weekend for four weekends - even in the snow and rain here in Ohio. It operated flawlessly, although it was getting pretty dirty around the muzzle. I shot the Hydra-Shoks and PDX1 rounds as those are what I have used for everyday carry. I only shot 40 of each of those to check for reliability as they are very expensive compared to the 100-round Winchester White Box 115 grain rounds I pick up at Walmart.

Stoppage: 1 Round of Federal AE 124 had a part of the case mouth folded in while the bullet was seated. It would not fit in the chamber.

Can we wipe the crap off the end of the slide and muzzle (exterior) before we jam It down our pants?

If not count me and my failure prone 9mm Glocks and M&Ps out :-P

    Caliber: 45ACP
    Ammunition: 230gr FMJ: 1000 Fiocchi, 900+ Armscor, 200 WWB
    Dates of testing: 11/29/10 - 12/21/10
    Total rounds fired: 2100+

2 Failures to Return to Battery (about 1/4" out of battery, a tap on the rear of the slide fixed it. Possibly due to poor judgment during detailed stripping of the recoil-spring/guide-rod assembly, see below)

3 Failures to Feed (always immediately after extracting a dummy round during a ball-and-dummy drill)

Many (~30) Failures to Lock Back on an empty magazine (likely caused by a poor grip)

This gun had about 3000 rounds through it before I started, including 2000 rounds of Wolf. The last 900 rounds before I started went without cleaning or lube, either, in an aborted first attempt at the 2K challenge. There was one FTRB and many failures to lock back (see below) before this challenge started. I also detail-stripped the recoil-spring/guide rod assembly once, and very poorly: the guide rod is now scored, and there's a little added friction on the recoil spring. I suspect the two FTRB’s (one with Wolf and one with WWB) are partially attributable to that.

1000 rounds Fiocchi 230gr FMJ and 450 rounds Armscor 230gr FMJ on 11/29/2010, during a training day with Frank Garcia. About 20 FTLB on the last round of a magazine, and 1 FTRB.

150 rounds WWB 230gr FMJ on 12/7/2010, during Tuesday Night Drills with TSSB. 2 FTLB - otherwise 0/0/0.

50 rounds WWB 230gr FMJ and 250 rounds Armscor 230gr FMJ on 12/14/2010, during a practice session at an indoor range. Many (~5) FTLB. Also, 1 FTRB on round #14.

200+ rounds Armscor 230gr FMJ on 12/21/2010, during a practice session at an indoor range. 1 FTLB. 3 FTF, always on the round after a dummy during ball-and-dummy practice.

The gun has had many failures to lock back on the last round. Just before the test, I put new Wolff springs in 2 of my magazines. The FTLBs stopped happening with those mags - but then started again. So, I figure it’s probably my grip - which certainly needs some work. I spent about 130 rounds on the 12/14 practice session focusing on that, and only one FTLB since then. My support thumb now rests on the trigger guard, just below the frame. Fixed.

Also, the trigger often fails to reset, if it’s in double-action mode (i.e., during dry-fire) and if I release the trigger very slowly. (See a video.) This never happened during live-fire, and it happens even when the gun is sparkling. In any case, I have a new TRS ready to be installed. To be honest, though, I’ll be cleaning my guns a lot less than I used to, based on the results of this challenge.
