Looking at your link, I'm wondering about the connector... looks Bell-specific.!

Looking at the directions for that gadget it appears you just insert leads into the back of your mirror plug, at least in the example vehicle. Looks like it depends on the type of plug and connection going into your mirror.

Yes, the beauty of this is you can remove it at any time as it is not permanent. I have both an Escort radar detector plugged in as well as the video camera. I am using the DVR-207GS which utilizes a 12v plug, which is the same plug as used in the Beltronics radar detector. I drive an Infiniti G37 and in the back of the mirror there are three wires that plug into it. There is no need to take the plug apart or splice into it, just identify the ground (black) and the switched hot wire (grey I believe) and firmly press the ends of the wires into the housing. The fit is a little tight, but with a little patience and pressure it goes in no problem. I don't always run the radar detector, but I am always running the camera. However, electrical draw on both are very low and I have not had any overload issues.

I don't care for the mounting system for the camera so I just ordered some RAM mounts and should have them later this week.

With the direct hard wire, the unit powers up automatically when I start the car and shuts down when turned off. I can pretty much just leave it alone and let it do it's thing. There is an audible tone that indicates it is powering up when I start the car and also, about 15 seconds after shutting the car off I can hear the camera shut down.

I am running a 32 GB SD card and recording in 5 minute increments. After the card fills up, it automatically loops back and erases the oldest data and starts over. Video quality is good but lacks a zoom function. The camera has a LCD screen so you can watch the video right from the unit.

I am on a MAC so to edit video I need to convert the .avi file to an .MP4 so I use a free application called Hand Brake for the conversion.

Monitor looks a little small for the back up feature. If I am reading the reviews correctly, the unit can record when the car is off and has motion detection.

Since this thread has been resurrected...(thanks kevin)

I am going to be buying another DVR soon. The G1W I have right now is nice but I want something super nice.

Supposedly, from what I've read the Z-Edge DVR is the best on the market. I'll probably grab one in the next few weeks.

VDM is there a trustworthy site that reviews or covers these recording units? Been waffling about one for a while but seems like something to keep an eye on in case a good sale comes around...

Tom posted the site I found his unit at. I have too gotten some stuff that they reviewed and have been happy with my purchase.

As far as carDVRs go, I have a g1w which works well enough for me to keep it for my wife's car. I need something with a little more umfph just because I get involved in more shit.

I think we have too many of threads on this car dvr thing scattered about...

    Anyway, just updating...

I have three of these K6000 car dvr's throughout three years, they are cheap as hell now. All three have sucked at one point or another. My wife's finally died earlier this week and I gave her my G1W which is superb car dvr. I ordered the Z-Edge dvr I linked in a post above and has been having it run for the last two days. I am really content with my initial impression of the z-edge. Lots of good features and the menu's don't suck. It comes with a 32gb card and while it advertises it is 2K quality ready, if you do use 2K it is at 30fps which is unacceptable. It does 720P @ 60fps which is fantastic, probably native to that setup and the 2K setup is software enhanced. Either way I've been running it in both and the difference is very noticeable, 720P @ 60fps is just smoother, which is required for this type of device and legal considerations.

I think I'll do a full review on the K6000 dvr, as it sucks donkey dick and I wouldn't recommend it even to people I dislike. Probably do a post in a week or three.

The new Garmin DriveAssist™ 50LMT Has a built in Dash Cam. I always use a garmin when I drive and do not like having both the Garmin and the Dash Cam on the windshield (too many wires, looks too inviting for theft). They have some new features using this cam as well "Integrated camera allows for Forward Collision Warning3, Lane Departure Warningł and more" suggested price $300.

I'll be interested to hear your impressions. I've had mine for a couple of days and the color saturation is way over the top. Daytime reflections on the inside of the wind shield seem to confuse it, too. I've not used a dash cam before, so this might be within normal expectations. I'll do some fiddling, but there don't seem to be any menu options for correcting saturation, exposure, and such.

It is very bright, I thought it was too bright and I messed around with it but there aren't any settings to change it.

I think its permanently set on +2.0 EV for brightness. Which is fine except in direct sunlight. I reviewed my driving today and on the DVR it looked washed out but on my computer screen it actually looked pretty good.

Do yourself a confidence builder and take your car inside and review the footage....
