Bother with a beaver tail, yet stick those skimpy GI sights on there? Next time try it the other way.
We may lose and we may win, but we will never be here again.......
I like the beavertail, but would be concerned that the cost of improving the sights would eat up the savings over a more expensive alternative.

Perhaps dealing with the sights is not as difficult as I first thought. The linked rear appears to work. I am not certain about the front sight since I do not own a 1911 with a traditional GI slide.

There are some decent sights available for the USGI-style rear dovetail. If it was me, I'd go with a MEU(SOC) style rear, or something somewhat reminiscent of it:

If it was me, I'd probably go with either the Harrison Design or KCs Kustom option, or something similar. I believe there are a few others out there like this still in production.
The Harrison looks quite nice to me, though I like the thought of the flat/vertical blade of the KCs version as opposed to the angled forward shape of the Harrison.

Good to know about options for the rear sight.
Is the front sight this type?

Yep, it appears to be the USGI staked style front sight. This is the Brownells 1911 front sight staking tool mentioned in the article.
Here's an example of the type of staked front sights (quite a few others like this on the market) for those, although I don't know what fits that particular gun.

A thread on a 1911 forum indicated that Rock Island uses narrow .056 tenons on their front sights.
