That has been the conventional wisdom, (that there's not enough metal above the barrel to machine without affecting the integrity of the slide) but I guess that guy managed to do it without compromising the slide.
    Interesting.

There was one other guy in Michigan that did a dovetail. Never seen one up close...

Just got my vertec grips back from VCD grips! I bought two sets of vertec grips from BUSA for half off. They give the gun flatter sides than the factory wilson grips, which i prefer. They left a bit to be desired as far as texture though.

I had always wanted to try VCD grips ever since i saw them on Todd's 1911 test, but didn't think I'd have a chance as i have no plans to shoot 1911s anytime soon. But when i got the vertec grips VCD immediately came to mind as an opportunity to try the texture out. It's too early to have any definitive opinions yet, and i won't get to live fire for a few months, but initial impressions are favorable.

I forgot to add, i sent the grips to VCD after contacting him here. Turn around was quick, the price was fair, and communication was great. I will definitely do business there again and would recommend anyone who is interested to do the same. Good stuff!
