I wasn’t trying but they sold out in record time.

The TAD/Sangin is just a modded solar Seiko.
For the same or less money you can pay one of the Seiko modders to build you up a way cooler watch and have a true one of a kind.

I don't want another modded Seiko though... I've already got one.
    Think for yourself. Question authority.

I really like the new OD green Seiko "Arnie".
I'll probably grab one as a work watch.

Yes, we got lucky in getting some the first year we applied, and that the pandemic lock-down has somewhat lifted to do this.

My group doesn't really do ultralight, we tend to truck through things (probably my influence, since I'm the gear queer of the group, as usual). I have a few ultralight items (Bearikade, zPack sleeping bag), but most of my stuff is more oriented toward durability/rough conditions (Kifaru EMR II, Hilleberg Tarra, MSR Reactor, etc.); I will be packing lighter than usual, but I'm still probably gonna hauling a ruck quite a bit heavier than the average thru-hiker's.

I concur re the look/functionality of the watch.

Where Seiko can do better IMHO is that they are still using their proprietary "Hardlex" crystal at price point where the vast majority of the market ( to include microbrands) are using a much more scratch resistant sapphire crystal.
