Thread: Obligatory Wristwatch Thread

When I hear "field" watch, all I can think of is a Hamilton Khaki, pilot's watch or similar. I've always had a thing for Hamiltons and Marathons. That being said, I got my son a quartz timex, and it's REALLY good, especially the backlight. The crystal does seem too soft

Its an automatic so youd have to keep an eye on the time difference. They run either a little slow or a little fast so over time youd have to reset. Mine runs about 10 seconds a day fast. When I notice its a few min fast I just roll it back a little bit

If I wanted/needed an "affordable" no-diver-bezel automatic analog, I'd get one of these two.

I’m thinking of a Timex. If it breaks, no biggie. The last one (plastic digital) lasted ten years, one battery replacement (by me, on the kitchen table) until the band broke. The band was molded in, so it was tossed.

Might I recommend the CWC G10, which has an end user-serviceable* battery?

*Meaning you can open the battery compartment without any specialized tools or opening the movement up.

    I used to wear this:

As a kid running through the woods, as a young soldier overseas, through college. Probably 10-15 years. In that time I think I went through 3 or 4 of the same watch.
I think I lost the crown on one, broke a few bands, and one particular example had the acrylic crystal crack. I always replaced it with the same make and model... then again, they were $35 at the time. I saved my last once from overseas. It's battery is dead and in a box somewhere.

Not bad watch, although I would probably change out the band. I think that was what caused me to replace the watch a few times.

I moved away from it and started wearing a G-Shock that my brother gave me for being his best man. From there I moved to the Garmin I'm wearing now, because I had a no BS use for the GPS function. It's a cheap random timex expedition, but If I saw one I would recognize it immediately and smile about it.

It’s been around six years since I wore a real watch. I try every once in a while but I can’t give up the functionality.

Field Watch - The Islander Mitchel

Interesting to see this thread take a Field Watch turn. Like Cory, I also had a couple of Timex Expeditions back in the 90's. I think that the Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition looks awesome, but I'm not inclined to spend a grand on a watch at the moment.

Last week I ordered a Mitchel Field watch from Island Watch on Long Island, NY. I think that the watch is named after Mitchel Army Airfield (later Mitchel Air Force Base) in Long Island that was closed in the 1960's.

I had bought a sapphire crystal for my old Mako from Island Watch, and later a crystal and band for my son's Seiko. They were good to deal with. Their owner, Marc, makes frequent YouTube posts about brands he sells (including Seiko and Marathon) and on some of the watches he has made for his own brand.

The Mitchel Field watch has a case diameter of 39mm, a Seiko NH35 automatic movement, a sapphire crystal and good lume. I opted for the black model with a neon yellow second hand which is on sale for less than $200. I got it yesterday and wore it to the range today. I haven't made my mind up about the band; I may replace it with a NATO strap. But I think I am going to like the watch.

A bit of a thread drift, but my ETA powered Tudor Pelagos is malfunctioning. I don't really want to take it the dealer here, nor the luxury watch place that repaired it once before. So now I'm looking at out-of-state options. Does anyone have a West Coast reference that I can trust to do quality work at a reasonable price?
