The Daytona is THE Rolex. No matter where it's placed in the heirarchy of the brand's models, it's their flagship. My wife wears one, and there's no mistaking what model is on her wrist

I think to the people not familiar with the entire Rolex line, the SUB is THE Rolex. And many of those people, would also have a hard time distinguishing a fancy Datejust to the Day-Date.
The recent release of the Daytona, along with some crazy vintage auctions like Newman's daytona will put that model at the forefront of what people think of then they hear the name Rolex
Personally, I think the best model (for me) is the GMT.

Heavy enough to feel substantial, light enough to feel special. The Titanium Pelagos is still pretty hard to beat for an EDC tool watch
I'm more of a Black Bay fan myself.

Black Bay's are seriously hot.
+1. Here is an iPhone glam shot of my pet '78 1680 Sub-Date. Traded an M-1 Garand and some cash for it almost 10 years ago.
(And yeah, panda dial Daytonas are wicked; the first one that Paul Newman was gifted by his wife just sold at auction for almost 18 million bucks. Mind blowing.)
