    Dry firing

I have heard different opinions on whether this is ok or if it could damage the firing pin. I think I have figured out it is model specific as to safety concerns.
I have in my possession a Ruger SR22, Glock 26, Baretta Tomcat, and an older model Walther PPK.
I want to be able to break in the new guns as well as getting myself use to the trigger pull. Any helpful advice would be appreciated.

You're going to get two opinions: "yes, use a snap cap" or "no, it doesn't matter."

    Here's my worthless opinion:

Use snap caps on striker-fired guns if you dry practice a lot. Don't dry fire rimfires. Otherwise rock on.

    for rim fire

go to hardware storm take 22 bullet match up to plastic wall anchors i beleive size 4 yellow ones same size as 22 lr get around 10 to 15 shots before striker mangeles end cost 4.00 per 100 . you nedd something because strikers hit barrel breach on pistols that are rim fire causing damage.i dry fire 9mm all the time use snap caps simply for practice due to lets practice clip and feed and clear but in my opinion center fire does not need snap cap

I guess it depends how much dry fire you plan on doing... Are you following Anderson or Ben's training plan?
If so, a snap cap is cheap insurance against this:

I've heard that it is unwise to dryfire older PPKs - but I dunno if my memory is failing me or where I heard it.

I saw a 22lr revolver that someone had dry fired to the point that it peened over the edge of the chambers and you could not insert rounds in some of them. In some rimfire guns, a thick rubber band can be used as an improvised snap cap.
