Thread: $25K EV Pickup?

Even if it is only 25K that's $500ish a month for 5 years. How much fuel would that buy? Will a battery last 5 years or will it require a new 5-10K battery before 5 years? What quality level battery are you getting for a 25K rig as much like anything else not all bargains are bargains

I understand your point, but best case scenario (according to their site) you can add one third of the total battery capacity, for the smaller battery, overnight using a 110 outlet.

With a 240v outlet you will be able to get a full charge overnight, but not all homes have a 240 outlet in the garage, so that will be an additional cost.for many, and it will take 4-8 hours to get a full charge, again for the smaller battery.

At public charging (480v) they claim you can go from 20% to 80% in 30 minutes, again for the smaller battery. A complete fill up of an ICE or Hybrid tank only takes a few mimutes.

For many people just to get a full.or near full charge overnight will require adding the ability use 240v in the garage, or stopping at 480v charging station for 30+ minutes.

I'm sure it will meet the needs of some people, but for me ICE or hybrid is better.

If you believe their claims, the batteries are supposed to last 10 to 20 years.

Aaaand how much capacity is left in 10 years....? Cell phones show degradation after a year

An Uber (heavy use) said range was down 40-50 miles after a year or so

Maybe gun buyers aren't the only consumers who are beta testers?

    SIG makes electric cars too?

In spite of the jest, I had a similar thought today on the interstate. I passed a several year old Toyota Tundra… in my 14 year Fleet Package Expedition. Evidently, arguably the most bullet proof truck on the road got a 2022 engine “update” - and the Tundra went from hero to zero in a hurry. https://carbuzz.com/toyota-tundra-tu...gine-problems/

Why do I care? Because I was looking to get a new truck this year. The new build Tundra’s issues were enough to make the factory fresh unattractive and put a serious price premium on the lightly used versions.

Beta testing in the real world seems the standard these days. I can bemoan this with the best and argue the many reasons…

I choose my new vehicle purchase in no small part to what vehicle drivetrain and body style was OLDEST and least updated.
As I have had quite a few model years under my belt, I believe maturity has a special value.

On the core PF topic, I am beginning to appreciate the wisdom in choosing a well understood and relatively mature firearms platform. Let a lot of other someones be the beta tester.
