First time with an optics ready pistol

First time using an optic ready gun versus sending out the slide to be Milled. Made sure I had all the correct tools bought the wheeler fat wrench looked up proper torque settings got all the parts trying to do everything right etc.

The first red flag is that CZ sent the incorrect size wrenches to remove the iron site plate, No big deal I’ve got bits of plenty. Took the plate off got the Henning optic plate installed gently and slowly started putting in the screws to set the SRO The first Screw went in fine hit 15 pounds, Went to do the second screw and then probably around 10 pounds my bit exploded and is now stuck in the Allen head…. Now what?

I think you’re gonna need a set of replacement fasteners and drill that one out. Did the bit have a security pin hole in the center or something? It looks like it was hollow; if that’s a hole, you might be able to get a broken screw extractor in there pretty easily.

Finding decent quality bits is an eternal struggle. So many are made out of alloy cheese.

Standby, this is fixable, although it will cause you to sacrifice the screw. Take a larger size bit, possibly a torque, and pound it into your screw until you have a very tight fit, and then just unscrew the stripped fastener.

unfortunately that might be out of the question, the head isn't stripped, the bit itself sheared and is stuck in the hole

    ^lol

I am not having any luck on my own with the tools I have, thankfully a local gunsmith can take a look this weekend for a case of beer.

Been there. Try this, look and see if you have an tapered version of the star shaped bit. I've had luck tapping that in on lots of stripped screws and been able to back them out.

    Glad you can get help.

To prevent it next time Don’t torque the first screw down without the second being in there. I’ll typically get them both started, tighten one until it stops with little force, then the other. Then I’ll do torque wrench.

But I’ve been there it sucks. Install enough optics and you’re gonna get a stripped out screw or something like that. It’s a pain.
