    By the great salt sea.
SIL’s Suburban V8 motor croaked last month: cylinder shutoff and engine shutdown efficiency stuff killed it dead. Gonna cost my brother a metric boatload of trouble and money to get it saleable. Because he’s not keeping it, even after it is running again.

They just bought a pickup. V8 Silverado. Because obviously that will be different.

Have been very pleased with the performance of the new F-150, getting 19mpg without really trying.
I want them to release the Ford Performance 93 tune that pretty much matches the Raptor but would probably be the dumbest unnecessary thing I have ever done, but I am probably still going to do it (if it is available, currently says 2021-2023).

The eight speed automatic paired with the V8 in Tahoe, suburbans and Silverado’s is very problematic and there’s a class action lawsuit. They still use it with the turbo four cylinder.

The V8 now have a 10 speed and so far it seems better

I would like a de-tune kit That runs on 87 and is less stressful to the driveline. Similar to what comes in the eco-boost Transit. They seem to have less driveline problems. According to a technicianI spoke with.

    I have 2 Excursions, 2000, 2005, one Limited, one Eddie Bauer. Both are V 10,4x4, 4.30 axles.

Both have about 190,000 miles. Put a rear end in one and front wheel bearings in the other. Front disks in one. Plugs and ignition coils etc.

My plan is to keep them in good shape as long as possible They get 10.5 mpg whether city or at speed on the interstate. Not good but they are paid for.

I dread buying a new vehicle. At some point I may need transmissions or engines rebuilt.

Nice. I've heard those V10s run forever.

I also have a 2014 and it seriously has plenty of power, 420fp at about 2200rpm, very helpful especially with the six-speed, probably closer to the output of the Transit.
I was not sure I was going to like the ten-speed, but boy I was wrong. You can just get it up to ~3000rpm and it just clicks up through the gears and hauls ass. The ten-speed with the 2014 tune would be a fine combination, we had a Transit on order that didn't build for us, at this point I am happy enough with the new truck that I am a little glad they didn't.

V10's in the Ram were also known for long life and durability. Simpler design and I believe a cast iron block.

Only GM we had was an early 2000's Tahoe with the small V8 (5.3 liter?). Never any issues but that engine had been around for a long time. Since then we have had a few Durango's all with Hemi's and Ram trucks with both Hemi's and Cummins all of which have been fine. Part of that I think is that Dodge doesn't trade out tranny's and engines very often. Both seem to get exterior and interior face lifts and that's about it. Maybe we've just been fortunate.

Bummer about the GM engines. I thought that at least the Duramax was good to go.

I have a 2014 FX4 F150 with the Turbo six, like you said plenty of power with the six speed transmission. It’s been the best truck I’ve ever owned, hasn’t spent a day in the shop besides routine maintenance in the 10 years I’ve owned it. Only one time did I have an issue with it, at 84,000 miles I got a miss in cylinder number three. Took me about 45 minutes to replace all the spark plugs in my garage and good to go. I get right around 18 miles to the gallon, I’ve read some horror stories about the eco-boost but I sure haven’t experienced it myself.

I usually get a new truck around every 10 years (last one was a 2006 King Ranch) but I’m in no hurry still really happy with my 14.

A friend had problems with her 6.2 Escalade with less than 30k miles it left her on the side of the road. GM repaired it under warranty but she no longer trust it. Never thought I would see the day someone would trade a basically new Cadillac in on a new Hyundai because they trusted the Hyundai.
