SIG Romeo5 Gen 2 and Gen 2 Elite?

I have need for a couple of less than tier 1 RDOs, something better than crap grade but less expensive than my current favorite Aimpoint Duty RDS. I know SIG Romeo5s have a following, and I have two already - one of the originals and one of the models with the AAA below the optic. They work fine for what they are.

SIG seems to have updated these with Gen 2 models plus an Elite version. Both have what I consider to be an improved mount that is similar to my favored Reptilia. The big differences seem to be two different mount heights are available on the Elite (1.41” absolute and 1.93” high) versus only the 1.41” on the base model, plus the Elite adds a circle dot plus drops reticle which seems similar to the one in my Romeo4Ts. The Elite is almost twice as expensive as the plain model.

Does anyone have any experience with these?

    Heavy,

I was researching this and came across this article if it helps. I only have experience with the Gen 1.

Thanks for the link - that one didn’t pop up in my search.

Interesting comment in that review about the front ring being rubberized. I wonder if it can be peeled off so you can use a flip cap?

That would be good to know. I have lens caps on my current Romeo's and the protection on the Gen 2 would be nice.

The Gen 2 is on sale at Brownell's for $114.99 for a couple of more hours.

I briefly had a Romeo 5 Gen II. It had really bad red glare off the emitter at certain angles, worse than the previous gen. I thought it might be a fluke and sent it back to Sig to look at. After 4 weeks they sent me a new one that had the same problem.
I sold it and went to the new PA GLX-MD-21s, which I'm extremely happy with and will be my new go-to T2 form factor dot. A great feature of these is that they sit on the mount the same distance from the lens as an Aimpoint T2 which is welcome.
I also put a new Holosun ARO 2 MOA version on my 15-22 because of an insane $32 bonus bucks promotion on them at PA and I'm very happy with that as well. I like the PA more because of the adjustments and the well-functioning solar backup, but the ARO is a worthy replacement for the Romeo 5 as well.

I ended up grabbing two Gen2s which takes care of my current needs. They seem fine.
