Two more data points from me:
- Sometimes I didn't load the magazines to full capacity (I shoot IPSC and Bullseye, only for IPSC I load to full capacity)
- Mine are 9 mm magazines (don't know if this makes a difference in durability)
But I still assume: Most HK mags are very durable and can be loaded to full capacity without issue. Maybe the reason of the issue was a very rare and unlucky event during production (of the mag or its steel).

I shot HK P30 LEM 9mm for several years , about 50,000 rounds.
I had a bunch ( think dozens) of 15 round magazines and some that had TF extensions.
I had no problems with magazines. I would clean magazines occasionally.
Broke trigger springs on 2 practice pistols at about 15,000 rounds each.
Well, based on all the responses I guess I just got a bad batch of mags. A couple with my P30 I purchased in 2016 and a couple with my VP 40 I purchased in 2021. I do have a combined 30,000 rounds through both guns. Not sure if that was a contributing factor or not.
