He was an M. He knows what a USPSA stage is. I think this was a super-hoser "stage" to give his students a little fun ego boost.

This^^ and it’s also something which is repeatable across the various ranges where his classes are hosted.

They’re removing the G Flag as well, so there’ll be no option to zero the stage by getting under 2%.

I'm certainly 'damned' with numerous classes and years of competition as a madman. Larry went through hell in his legal travails.

Remember Berhard Goetz got a tougher sentence on his gun possession (not the SD portion of his trials) because of his tactical holster and HP rounds. The jury discussed it during the SD portion but the SD claim was strong enough to override that.
I think the real takeaway is that if you shoot your unarmed neighbor during the course of an argument and accidentally shoot a woman present then you should gird your loins for a sho'nuff ordeal.
Prior to the shooting one might not elect to take training from a goober like "I'm gonna start killing people" Yeager,(or any number of instructors who like to coin pithy bloodthirsty sayings) or live where there's an amoral anti-gun prostitor(admittedly a trick sometimes).

It was an article of faith among the majority of the cops I worked with that scoring higher than the minimum during qualification would come back to haunt you in a shooting. Which correlated nicely to their actual abilities.
    It could happen.
Of course you could also be painted as an irresponsible wielder of deadly instruments If you don't train and practice.
They're simply going to fling poo and hope it hits.
Character assassination is to be expected by the State, and don't forget what they're trying to pack the jury with.
Then there's election year prosecutions, hot button social issue prosecutions, hiring the lawyer who placed last in his class but is still a lawyer, dickhead cops, racist cops(we had quite a few black officers-at all ranks- who openly despised whites) , or, most likely, incompetent, poorly trained or indifferent cops.

A Mayor or governor or POTUS might try to put their thumb on the scales of justice, remember "Jackboots" and "If I had a son"?

It should really dampen one's enthusiasm for intervening, Standing Your Ground, protecting property of any kind("hey, be advised the brakes pull a little left") or anything but headlong flight. Remember to Serpentine.
Maybe practice shooting over your shoulder at a dead run?
