    8 Grip and Sighting Combinations

    Modified from Progressive Force Concepts

Target of your choice, 5 or 7 yds. Shot timer recommended.

Fire 2 rounds from low ready using 8 grip and sighting combinations, record times and hits for each. The goal is to minimize the delta in speed and accuracy.
    1. Strong Freestyle: R eye
    2. Strong Freestyle: L eye
    3. Support Freestyle: R eye
    4. Support Freestyle: L eye
    5. SHO: R eye
    6. SHO: L eye
    7. WHO: R eye
    8. WHO: L eye

If you are left handed and/or cross dominant, modify the drill to start with your preferred combination.

    Bonus string:
Fire 1 shot using each of the 8 grip and sighting combinations sequentially. The goal is to transition smoothly between eyes and between hands.

Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.

Brian Hartman at PFC is big on being fully 'bilateral' and minimizing the delta between stronghand freestyle with dominant eye, and everything else. Hand, arm, or eye injury is one reason why this could be useful. Shooting support side around hard cover is another. With a red dot, why not use your L eye and expose less of your head?

I like it as a training tool because it develops natural head movement to acquire the dot on the support side, and smooth transfer from two to one hand. As well, shooting support hand freestyle isn't a thing we do much and I find it fundamental to good WHO.

I did this with an irons-only gun, because I have alot more time shooting non-dominant with irons.

You know, after every string I assessed my hits, and by about string 6 I realized it would have been advantageous to mark the hits for each string.

Because the goal was to eliminate the delta, the time difference, between the different holds/eyes used, but in doing so accuracy suffered.

The only way to eliminate THAT would be to devote an equal time, of dry and live fire, to WHO and all these different combinations.

I certainly need to shoot left-handed slot more. I DO incorporate the left often in dryfire, hoping for that "parasympathetic" effect.

I think the weirdest (& slowest) thing was, going cross-dominant. Weak hand freestyle & WHO was wierd using right eye.
