Hilton Yam's HD came with orange IIRC. He said Staccato told him the orange followers were more durable than the green ???

Glock magazines have metal inside and plastic exterior. It’s the best for that gun.

I hear the fact these may be easier to take apart but, how many of you guys have to service your Glock mags?

I shot some Glock 17 mags for about 8-10 years and the magazine springs were getting tired; I installed TTI extensions and now they continue to serve.

I think they’re superior to pmags because of the metal interior and superior to the Mec-Gars because of the plastic exterior.

    YMMV.

Yesterday I shot Federal FMJ (probably 115gr, but not positive), 147gr HST, and some 147gr Remington GS I had from an ammo drought. The mags have green followers, and there were no malfunctions and no unintentional mag drops from a G19 G5 or a PSA Dagger. I have carried on in my G19 for two days the mag did not fall out, nor can I put enough force on the mag to overcome the mag catch's hold on the mag. I'm calling mine GTG at this point.

One observation on this thread. Glock guys are starting to sound like the 1911 guys they made fun of. "There's no reason for anyone to make a new Glock mag, JMB, I mean Gaston, built the perfect handgun..."

    I mean… that may be.

I was a 1911 guy. I was a poor college student, making about $8 an hour working 20-30 hours a week. Shooting was a luxury but it was my love.

So, I knew because I was told that the Wilson 47D was the 1911 magazine to use. So I bought one and shot 100 rounds through it and got a stoppage or two. Well…. So I kept shooting my Dan Wesson magazines that came with the gun. I was going to conceal carry, I bought some chip mccormick 10 rounders (when you have an 20% increase in capacity over 8 rounds it is worth it) and a night hawk slim base plate magazine. I went to shoot those. Turns out the followers of the chip mccormick magazine springs would be over compressed and the rounds would nose dive. So I swapped to Mecgar magazines. My night hawk magazine worked and my Dan Wesson magazines worked. But I had so many issues that I was concerned, so making $8 an hour I’d save up $40 of .45 ACP and $30-40 a pop magazines and go to the range to test. Just to see if my stuff worked, right?

Well doggone it if that slim base plate night hawk magazine didn’t start having issues at the end of magazines. So, I stopped carrying that. Eventually the gun also succumbed to rust and other things, and 9mm was half the cost. I went to Glock and I’ve carried a Glock in some shape or form ever since.

But, part of what I got sick of was tinkering with trying to get a gun that ran and truthfully the magazines were the problem not the gun. But my lesson from that is when you find something that does everything you want, it’s cheap, it’s reliable, and it has no drawbacks? Stop looking.

My opinion on the mecgar magazines is this - they’ll fix it, but one thing they probably won’t be able to fix is it’s a metal magazine body in a plastic framed gun and plastic magazine release. There seems to be credible opinions that worn down Glock magazine releases can have a problem with them. Now why doesn’t this come up with the Staccato? I’d bet it’s because it has a metal magazine release. But what is interesting is reports of the Stccato’s having hiccups with Glock magazines.

I haven’t seen anything official from mec gar stating magazine releases are the culprit, but anecdotes on the internet.

1 additional round in a magazine isn’t worth the headache. I had shot thousands of rounds through Glock 34’s with TTI striker springs, about a month ago I shot some Monarch brass NATO 9mm 124 gr and I had 3-4 light primer strikes. I bought 4 new OEM striker springs and put two in and have two for replacements. No issues after that. The probably 1 # difference in trigger pull performance isn’t worth the headaches of wondering if my guns will work or not.

But, that’s just how I prioritize stuff these days. I put reliability at the top of priorities.

Also, all of these magazines are cheaper than the 1911 magazines I used to buy which is ironic as well. I only shoot Tripp Cobra magazines in my TRP when I do shoot it.

    ETA:

Now! I will say if I carried whatever Glock single stack 9mm that carried 10 rounds and the aftermarket 15 round came out and it had good reviews. I’d pick that up and try it because a 33% increase in capacity is worth it in my opinion. But 1 round when I have 17 rounds? That’s 6.6% increase. I’m good. When I had a 7 round or 8 round .45 ACP magazine I’d do it. Now you know what I should consider? A Glock 24 round OEM reload ( https://themagshack.com/shop/pistol-...4-rd-magazine/ ).

More to grasp onto and 7 more rounds.

Old age makes me confused, but I will point out that Glock mags used in Glock pistols have provided us with reliability information on a couple billion rounds fired. I almost said data instead of information, but that term implies that I based my comment on published research. I plan to buy the Mec-Gar magazines. I'm curious. They may end up in the trash where I chunk any mag that hiccups.
