I have added length to a holster by taping a foam block I cut to size to the bottom of the holster. Basically using the ideas around using foam as a wedge just to add length to the holster. You can reinforce the foam with any harder objects if it deforms too much, just make sure you are ok with the idea of the thing you use to reinforce the foam with would not stab you in a car crash or a ECQC style event.
Fuse is 4.3. JM usually has an option for a “long” holster for most models if requested that adds about.5 inches. If @theJanitor could get a “long” fuse holster (actually should get a fuse - fuse with a threaded barrel would come the closest to what he’s looking for) that would put him right at 4.8-ish. Just under his govi length 1911s.
I had my 1911 out today because: reasons. I thought of this thread as pertinent to the manual safety to add a data point. So I grabbed the photo below, with the gun sitting on a 1" square backdrop that I had.
I'm a lefty, and my Garrison has a WC Short pad trigger and a WC Bullet Proof Ambi Safety. For purposes of the picture, I lined up the axis of rotation of the safety with one of the 1" grid intersections.
The horizontal distance from the axis to the center of my trigger pad is approximately 2.2-2.3", and the vertical drop is about 1". The safety lever is in the engaged position, and is at maybe a 40 degree angle relative to horizontal. I have M/L hands, measuring 7.3" to 7.4" from base of palm to tip of middle finger on my shooting hand. I find this position of the MS on my 1911 to be just about perfect.
So, if I were to obtain an OEM Sig P365 Manual Safety, or, oh, I don't know, maybe an AFTERMARKET manual safety lever (cough @UNK cough) this would be my context for evaluation.

It occurred to me I could just get my X Macro out of the safe and take the same picture. So I put some white paint on the frame, about where the hole in the FCU was for the MS lever pin:
Rich's X Macro Frankengun with blob of white paint, placed where I guessed the axis of rotation of MS Lever is within the FCU
Looks like the vertical distance from the safety rotation to the trigger is a bit less than 1", and the horizontal distance is 2.7-2.8". Which makes sense as I have a Short pad trigger fitted to my 1911.
Hmmm.

Ah - of course. You are correct, forgot about that. Good catch!
(Parenthetically, one of the reasons I fitted the curved OEM trigger vs flat on the Frankgun was to give me slightly more trigger reach for my hands. Plus I find my fingers fit better on the curved trigger than on the flat.)
