BLUF

This was an excellent learning experience. Wayne is solidly grounded on safety and fundamentals. You must have 100% accountability to meet Rule 4. This was effectively supported by the class drills and skills.

Class Notes

4 rules review with emphasis on Rule 4 ‘Identify your target and what is beyond it’.

The neglected leg of the Accuracy / Speed Triangle - Assessment.

Tammy and Timmy.

Shooting Notes

AM

No timers. 1-2-3 drill. Fundamentals. Grip is key. (Proved - Wayne slapping trigger with my good grip.)

(Personal aside: Had several C zone hits. Explained I could not see iron sights due to vision post cataract surgery. At 1015AM I Switched from X slide / irons to XL slide with 407k. Shot much more confidently the rest of the day)

Press out. Techniques to be aware of the dot with target focus.

F2S drills. Ocular window hits count only.

Fess up time: I had an ND in which I sent a round, while taking up the slack. Related to MCarbo spring? I need to revert to OEM springs to get the firmer / heavier stock reset, allowing some margin, when taking up the slack.

PM

Timer. Justin Dyal drills. Prep Time. 5 yard round up.

Movement drills shot as foot was placed. Forward. Left. Right.

Pseudo Action Pistol type drill, with complex no-shoots involving 3-stages requiring movement. Last one was Hackathorn ‘snake’ drill. Shot without time pressure but with um active distractions provided by Wayne. (Hey Mister why are you shouting that guy!? HEY MISTER!! HEY!!!)

Maintaining focus to get hits was challenging, but must be the priority. My misses were 2 in the C zone directly low. Our class did not hit any no shoots.

Finished class with 10 rounds drilling center of bull, to reinforce 100% accuracy. This was surprisingly satisfying.

Equipment Notes

Equipment malfunctions: none.

Gun was my backup / training P365, with an M Carbo spring kit and curved trigger. I had four 12 round mags and two sleeved 17 round X Macro mags. I reloaded with a Maglula off the line. Had one mag drop out due to operator error (did not seat mag with enough force).

Ammo was Federal AE 124 FMJ. Rounds shot: 250.

Holster was my RCS Perun, OWB, placed behind the hip. Worked fine. I wore a polo and shorts, I.e. normal go to WalMart gear.

Day started cool, but got warm (91F). I applied some grip product on my hands, and this helped, but I could tell the gun was getting away from me at times.

Key Takeaways

1. Refuse to accept misses. Critically examine every one, determine the reason, and eliminate it.
2. Shoot at a speed you can assess. This is not ‘as fast as possible’.
3. Practice the new dot index technique: Roll slide forward on press out as a learning aide to more reliably I ndex the dot
4. Gun felt squirmy, even using a liquid Anti-slip product. Investigate carrying either the X Macro grip Module, or add another layer of Talon
5. Need to restore back to the stock springs in my training FCU.
6. Soft fabric mag pouch sucked, need a better one. Kydex, and OWB. Like the DSG Koala I used to run for my Glock 48 mags.
7. Incorporate the Justin Dyal drills into square range and Dry Practice work
8. Need more work SHO and WHO. No, more than that, Rich.
9. I vastly prefer the Sig curved trigger. Need to fit one to my carry P365.
