Eating our own - Chief arrested for open carrying at county fair

    Link to story: https://www.whio.com/news/local/poli...outputType=amp

This happened a couple counties north of me. What a train wreck. There has got to be some sort of beef between the Sheriff and this Chief.

Yikes! That’s something I wouldn’t do either way. If he’s a verified cop I’d let it go and I wouldn’t open carry at a fair.
Just a dog chauffeur that used to hold the dumb end of the leash.

Agreed. Open carry off duty is idiotic.

That’s why I think there’s more going on than we know.

He was chief at a nearby village. Much drama. He finally got fired.

Ya. According to an Officer I know up there, there were issues between the local Chiefs and this Sheriff. The Sheriff lost his reelection primary race so he’ll be out at the end of the year.

If I was a cop in a small town or a deputy in a rural county, I'd try to stay on the good side of all LEOs in the area. I grew up in such an area, and LEOs, including state troopers didn't if they would get backup or who it might be.

This whole matter is absurd and I knew without researching that the dude was a village "Chief."

That sure was my first thought when I first read the news story.
Also note this is a county with fewer than 40k people and a tiny village with fewer than 2k total residents (how would that few taxpayers even fund dedicated LE?), leading me to wonder if this might be some carry over from a high school football game or stolen prom date...

Any larger businesses there? I grew up in a village that size, but there was a factory running three shifts. Between that and the car dealers, grocery stores, school system, and small businesses there were a lot more jobs than total residents.

I know what ya mean, I live near Dayton, and they were the same way, a zillon taxed employees leaving everyday to go home to the suburbs. Now they are down to only 137k residents, and like to be considered a significant city, and are still running it like it was still the old days, before General Motors (multiple sites) and NCR and a bunch of others migrated away.

But St Paris has me scratching my head, I sure am not aware of any major employers, they do not list any, and I cannot spot any:

    ETA:
But you are probably correct, they have a 1% income tax and are within 20mi of a bunch of places to go work:
