There was a deal to have IPSC as A “demonstration sport” back in the 1990s.
It failed, too combative, I figure.

One would think the Steel Challenge would be visual and audible enough to attract viewers.
Way back in the day - 50s and 60s? - what is now called "running target" was called "running game." The target was a boar with a bullseye superimposed. Centerfire rifles were required IIRC. The AMU had a team that used Remington 742s in .222 Remington. Later on, shooting targets that resembled animals was declared nyekulturny and the targets no longer had the boar, just the bullseye.
Oh, and trap and skeet? Civilized people never used shotguns to hunt birds, just ask the UIT.

As mentioned, 25M rapid fire would be the hardest to properly train for, and most likely achieve. The women's 25M event would be much easier to approximate, and is still an excellent challenge.
I personally find the sport quite exciting to watch. One look at the athletes reminds you that shooting is a very mental game, it was pretty funny to watch Florian Peter let out a huge yawn before the finals match. I thought the olympic coverage was sub-par compared to the ISSF Youtube channel for official events, as they tended to focus on one shooter instead of you seeing the others.
Really kind of a shame that International Pistol isn't more of a thing in the U.S.
As I recall, there was the Running Deer at 100 m, manually operated centerfire. Most teams just got good with bolt actions but the AMU put .222 barrels and Redfield Olympic sights on 760 pumps. Early in the 20th century Walter Winans shot a Rigby double rifle in .22 Savage High Power.
Then they went to Running Boar at 50 m, .22 LR.
I THINK there was a spell of Running Boar at 10 m. air rifles before they went to the sliding bullseye.
You have to be careful about those Skeet shooters. I have seen a number of movies and TV shows depicting the Mob bosses conferring on a Skeet range.

The winter sports are directly descended from war but still don't shoot anything like a human target. I read UK magazines before their ban, denouncing US humanoid targets in our sports as being blood lusted.
As far as Javelin, hammer, discus - well, except for Thor and Xena - their war like representations are few. When someone launches a javelin at a podium, then they might get a negative view.
