Would a traditional suppressor or a flow through be better for the piston system of an MCX? Looking at getting a shorter "K" can for an 11.5" 5.56.

I don’t regret getting a Sandman-S for my MCXes, but it’s not the lowest pressure can out there. However, it’s much less gassy on 5.56 with the .30 end cap than it is on .300 BO and 7.62x51.

I find my 11.5" MCX to be very gassy even on the low setting. It wasn't as objectionable with my Hybrid 46 as it is with the now dedicated AAC M4 2000, but I wish I had waited for a flow through can.
It's not the MCX, but it's your cans.
We issue the AAC M4 2000 at work. it is an OLD can design and one of the gassiest I've used.
The Hybrid 46 and similar Silencerco cans (Omega etc) are newer than the M4 2000 but are also gassy by current standards.
I know SIG makes a variety of gas plugs / port sizes for the MCX for various contracts. I don't think they list them publicly but It might be worth calling SIG, explaining your issue and asking if they have a gas plug with smaller ports.
If not, I've had good experience with the newer (but not RB/Flow through) YHM cans (Turbo K and Fat cat) on the MCX in 5.56. The YHM reduced back pressure can should be even better. The current YHM cans are reasonably priced (n the $400 to $600 range) and accommodate the HUB modular mounting so you can configure them to your existing muzzle devices.
If you want a K can I would suggest a flow through or other reduced back pressure design.
Cans are always a compromise. Quieter cans will have more gas/back pressure. Lower pressure cans will be louder.
A K can will never be the quietest so you may as well not get gassed out.
I recently picked up a CAT Alley cat for my MCX SBR, hoping to cut the gas blowback down a little bit. Having said that, I also picked up a Cobalt Kinetics Scrambler for another rifle. I haven't had a chance to shoot either yet, but the scrambler is so small and light, if it works ok, I may get another for my MCX.
4.75" long, and 6.5oz. Titanium, but CK says no barrel length or firing schedule restrictions. I find that kind of hard to believe, I'll see how well it holds up on my 16" SR-15. My scrambler is direct thread, but they also make a QD, that uses the CGS/CAT LH thread muzzle devices.
The Scrambler in-between the Alley cat, and a griffin HRT556.
