    SBS Options

Well this itch didn’t take long to develop...

After seeing how simple the NFA thing is (cost not withstanding) it’s opened up a whole new potential shopping list. This past year I was able to take a number of shotgun classes that opened my eyes up to the true utility of them. I beginning to scratch on either a 14” or 16” option for around the house and homestead. I think it would truly be handy. Besides VangComp, are there any options out there? Wilson has a few offerings, but nothing in stock either place. I could send my current 870 out but unsure on that as well. I’ve searched a bit here and in the Shotgun Forum, and besides a few posts over the years from GJM, the info is fairly slim. A pretty niche item for certain.

Any assistance, advice, or directional shove would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

No experience beyond shooting SBSes a few times over the years, but I’ve considered getting one of these several times now. I’m just not sure if the utility of losing 4” or so barrel length is worth the extra $200.

What 870 do you currently have? If it's an 870 Police or Wingmaster the internals are as good as they ever need to be and sending it out for an upgrade package would probably be a lot of money for very little gain.

The 870 "easy button" is a Wingmaster or 870 Police with one of those LE trade in 14" 870 barrels and a good +1 extension with a factory youth stock and R3 recoil pad.

If you want to go ham, the sky is the limit with what Vang and other guys like Josh at Cottonbranch Customs can do.

Giggled when I clicked on the Mossberg. I have an 88 that has not seen an ounce of love the past 25 years. Ignored, ridiculed, left out of all the cool kid stuff. Yet it ALWAYS runs. Speedfeed stock is handy too. Two slugs, two #8s, and the tube has #00. Anyhow...

The 870 is an HD model I put a slug barrel with sights on. About 5 years old. Seems to be holding up fine.

I had the chance to swing a short one around a bit. It made me grin.

I’ll have to research a bit.

I have a Mossberg 12ga Shockwave - I can convert it to a SBS via eForm 1 just like a SBR, right?

Yep, a Shockwave just takes a Form 1 and bolting on a stock.

If you’re not set on a pump gun, the Remington V3 Tac-13 has had my eye for years. I hear their gas system is actually pretty reliable. A reliable, semiauto, 13” 12ga with a decent stock would be sick.

Looks like these are coming in at a grand. Go big...

No one is coming. It is up to us.

If they’re reliable, and I’d love to see some long term reviews to confirm whether or not they are, that’s substantially cheaper than a Benelli M4 or a Beretta 1301, and only about $100 more than a Beretta A300 Ultima Patrol. Of those three, only the M4 is available as an SBS. Pretty much every other semiauto shotgun is an also-ran.
