Do you just wanna know for gun nerd curiosity?

Otherwise, what difference does it make other than meeting the legal definition of a machine gun ?

My experience here matches that of WobblyPossum I.e. The majority of the illegal machine guns recovered here in San Antonio are Glock or Glock clones with conversion devices or ARs (usually AR pistols) with DIAS.

We’ve been fairly lucky here, we’ve only had one instance in the past couple years of an LEO being shot with a machine gun. That involved an 18-year-old suspect with felony warrants who hid in the shed and ambushed county Deputy using an AR 15 with a drop in auto sear. Glock switches are prolific here to the point where we’ve had at least one switch equipped Glock recovered from a teenager at a local high school and ATF recovered a switch equipped Glock that had been pawned and unknowingly put out for sale by a local pawnshop. The majority of Glock pattern guns I’ve seen here with switches are either 80% builds or stolen out of vehicles from irresponsible people who want a “car /truck” gun because they are too lazy to actually carry a gun on their person.

Social media videos lead to Del Rio man pleading guilty to federal weapons charge

Authorities say Facebook videos show Mark Jimenez, 23, firing an illegally converted automatic pistol alongside a convicted felon and a juvenile.

A Del Rio man who reportedly posted videos of himself using an unlawfully possessed “glock switch” — used to convert a firearm for automatic operation — has pleaded guilty to violating federal weapons law, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Mark Anthony Jimenez, 23, pleaded guilty in a federal court to one count of conspiracy to traffic firearms, U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas announced.

According to court documents, Jimenez, also known as “M-Thang,” obtained a pistol with a machine gun conversion device, or switch. The switch is designed to convert a semi-automatic weapon into a fully automatic one.

Court documents also revealed that the 23-year-old bought two boxes of 9 mm ammunition in Del Rio.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives found videos of Jimenez firing the pistol with a switch on Facebook. In the video, co-defendant Alleena Nikole Soto, 20, and a juvenile also were seen shooting the converted automatic weapon.

Subsequently, ATF canvassed the property where Jimenez was seen firing the automatic pistol and found multiple 9 mm shell casings, which were consistent with the ammunition he had bought.

The Justice Department said Jimenez knew it was unlawful to possess a firearm with a machine conversion device and that it was illegal for Soto to possess firearms because she is a convicted felon.
Jimenez faces up to 15 years in prison.

US seizes over 350 websites used to import gun parts from China

BOSTON, Sept 11 (Reuters) - U.S. authorities said on Wednesday they had seized more than 350 websites selling gun silencers and parts from China used to covert semiautomatic pistols into fully automatic machine guns.

Federal prosecutors in Boston said the seizures followed an investigation since August 2023 into websites, businesses and people offering to illegally sell and import machine gun conversion devices.

Law enforcement conducted undercover purchases from those websites of gun-related items, resulting in shipments from China of packages that falsely described their contents as containing materials like a "necklace" or "toys," prosecutors said.

In fact, the packages contained machine gun conversion devices known as "switches" and silencers that are prohibited from being imported under the federal National Firearms Act, prosecutors said.

Many of the websites sold counterfeit goods and misused gun manufacturer Glock Inc's trademark to suggest the switches were produced by the company when they were not, authorities said in court papers, opens new tab.

"The seizure of these domains is a critical step in disrupting the flow of dangerous contraband that threatens public safety," Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy in Massachusetts said in a statement.

Over 700 machine gun conversion devices, 87 illegal suppressors, 59 handguns and 46 long guns have been seized as a result of the probe, in addition to the 355 websites, said Ketty Larco-Ward, inspector in charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service's Boston Division.

"The proliferation of readily available devices which allow the illegal manufacturing of machine guns is a plague on our communities," she said.

White House condemns Alabama shooting that police say killed 4, wounded 17 in alleged paid ‘hit’
Officials identified 3 of the victims killed by gunfire in the Five Points South entertainment district

The White House issued a statement Sunday, condemning gun violence after four people were killed and at least 17 others were wounded following a mass shooting in a popular Birmingham, Alabama, nightlife district Saturday night.

Last night, several people were killed and many more wounded in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. And once again, our entire nation is watching in horror as another community is devastated by the national epidemic of gun violence," Stef Feldman, Gun Violence Prevention Director said in a statement.

"President Biden and Vice President Harris join Americans across the nation in praying for the families affected by this senseless violence," Feldman continued.

At the direction of President Biden, Feldman said the White House is coordinating with federal, state, and local officials as investigations are underway into the shooting.

"Americans should not have to live like this. And we can’t let it become normal. This year alone there have been more than 400 mass shootings which have traumatized Americans and torn communities apart. As President Biden often says: Enough is enough," Feldman said.

Two men and a woman were killed at the scene in the 2000 block of Magnolia Avenue in the Five Points South area near the University of Alabama at Birmingham, while a fourth victim died at the university's hospital, the Birmingham Police Department told Fox News Digital via email Sunday morning.

Police responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 11 p.m., police said.

Authorities identified three out of four of the victims killed by the gunfire. Police said all three died at the scene and identified the victims as Anitra Holloman, 21, of Bessemer, Alabama, Tahj Booker, 27, of Birmingham, Alabama, and Carlos McCain, 27, of Birmingham, Alabama.

The fourth victim is an adult male, who died at the hospital, pending identification, officials said.

Detectives believe the shooting was not random and stemmed from an isolated incident where multiple victims were caught in the crossfire," police said in the emailed statement.

In a press conference Sunday morning, Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond said he believes the shooting was "a hit," and that someone was paid to kill the targeted victim, while he added that the victim is among those who were killed.

Police confirmed the weapons used were fully automatic and that more than 100 shell casings were found at the scene along with numerous other pieces of evidence, according to Thurmond. They also believe there were several shooters based on evidence.

Authorities added that they are also working to determine who was the target of the shooting and will be reviewing video surveillance.

As these giggle switches are the like are probably things that can be made with a decent 3D printer, the only way I see to slow things down is to max out everyone caught with one and publicize the convictions rather heavily.
