And that would also NOT be a sign of a thriving business.

My larger point is that the ability of CZ/DW to support their products is currently in doubt. There are enough reports of talent exodus, warranty delays, difficulties contacting anyone at CZ-USA, lack of parts availability, etc. that it will factor into my decision to purchase any further DW/CZ products. For example, one of the threads mentions the entire parts staff “left” CZ-USA early this month.

Again, this is not a reason to avoid DW entirely but it may need to factor into your decision if you are in a time crunch for a particular 1911 optics build. I’m in no particular hurry, so I’m sticking with my 3 Specialists and MAY send the 2 that are not OR in for a cut if I find evidence that DW can get the work done in a timely manner.

I was able to reach someone at CZ-USA customer service who informed me that DW no longer performs custom work on their pistols such as milling for optics cuts…regardless what the website says.

I think the custom shop was one of the victims of the changes during the pandemic. I had DW build three custom guns, and they were great.

    Quote from the CZ Forum:

Since it had been over 2 weeks and 3 emails from me since I placed my order, still with no word from CZ USA, I called them up today and was referred to a live chat, which I tried, but was immediately referred back to the phone number. So was put on hold for 20 minutes before getting a cs rep on the line.

Was told that all parts are currently backlogged because the head of parts had “lost” his 5 man crew. When I asked how he “lost” his crew, I was told that they all quit at the same time — but that they’d hired a new 5 man parts crew today.

So, we’ll see how long it takes the new guys to get up to speed. However, it speaks volumes as to the state of employee morale at CZ USA in KC under Colt’s “leadership.”

    Not good.

There are other threads on M4C and AR15.com that reference a similar mass exodus from parts department…well, if you can call 5 guys a mass exodus.

About 2 years ago I purchased a CZ 527 Jaguar bolt action .22 Rifle. The supplied 10 round magazine would not feed. I tried adjusting several things on the magazine to get it to feed reliably and it just would not work. I filled out the warranty form on the website and waited a couple weeks and never received any response. So I called and talked to someone who said that they had tried to email me but it never showed up on my end. I cannot recall all the particulars of the back and forth communication but I finally gave up and thought I would just buy a new magazine. There were none available in the U.S., the only ones that could be purchased were on the Czech Republic website and the shipping was more than the (already expensive) magazine. I gave up and thought I would just buy a magazine at some point in the future.

About 4 months ago I check the mail and there is a package from CZ that contains one 527 magazine. No notice or anything, they just shipped it out. So from my data point of one it doesn’t seem like a particularly well run operation but at least they sent a magazine.

Their parts (CZ, not Dan Wesson) were never that great. When I first started shooting Shadows in USPSA (quite a while back), I wanted to put together a spare parts kit. The TRS would be in stock, but not the slide stop or recoil springs. Recoil springs would come back in stock but the TRS was out, on and on. Had to order one $10 part at a time with like $8 shipping over the course of the year just to get spares together.

I will say that the CZ customer service rep that I’ve been in contact with over my DW has been pretty responsive.

That is disappointing to hear. It sounds like the worst decision CZ has made in the last decade was buying Colt. While ive never had any issues myself its like they ate a hamburger with mad cow disease.

On a related note, it appears that there are some real fire sales going on P10Cs right now. Is that a harbinger of financial trouble, or is the alleged new PXX coming Soon(TM)?
