Ever thought about the guy who wants to look at a 1911 from the counter and loads it up with his own magazines. Then shoots the place up. He just borrowed the gun for a few minutes.

Most of these policies are legal cover-your-ass in case of a lawsuit prevention. I'm surprised that we can even handle a firearm in a store anymore.

Or grabs a box of loose shells off a shelf to load up the Spas-12 he's handling as per "The Terminator".

Interesting, the Cabela's here - you just pay for the ammo and go out on your own. At Runnings, they walk you to the door with the ammo. Since I bought a lot the last time, the nice young man walked it to my car. In TX, you just bought it and walked. However, for a gun at Academy or Cabela's they walked you to the door. It's all liability.

At the USPSA match, we had small kerfuffle about coming in or leaving with loaded guns. The rules say you come in and go to an RO and unload or go to an RO and load up to go. Two old farts had a seizure over that. One guy said he never heard of coming and going in his two thousand years of shooting matches. Yawn!

Lots of folks around here have knife clips on their pants, if you look around.

Our range has the rule in the bylaws. No loaded weapons or magazines unless you're on the firing line. If you carry that would mean the magazine comes out and unloaded. I'm not sure everyone does that, but they might.

Yeah, ammo on the shelf and gun in hand. There's a recipe for a mass shooting.

I think Cabelas wants you to check your carry at the door but usually I don't see anyone around to give it to. Most of the time the employees won't make eye contact even if they are around.

Cabelas here has an explicit sign that carry is OK. So does Runnings. Ranges vary. One TX IDPA locale ran hot. The other asked that you get an SO. Here, the IDPA folks had an explicit load/unload area without the need of a SO. Our USPSA club is SO supervision on arrival and leaving, shocking the old toot.

I'm more scared of an accident during someone's run than the carry load/unload vagaries. Seen too many weird things. Had some dude almost shoot me in the foot when holstering at the line (I was score keeper).

Last time I was in a Cabelas, if I recall correctly, the sign said carrying is OK unless you plan to take the gun out to sell, try holsters, etc. In such cases, it must be unloaded.

Meanwhile, my state legislature (also in a uniparty state, just the opposite team) is strongly considering prohibiting private businesses from banning carry on their premises. There are a number of reasons, property rights chief among them, that I think this proposed law is too much of a good thing.

Bullshit like this Washington law is why I won’t cry too much if it passes.

Other than Cabela’s, I imagine he would be one dead mofo

    RCW 9.41.070."

(f, g, and h are the new sections that ban knives in libraries, zoos, and transit respectively)

I agree the opening sentence "AN ACT Relating to restricting the possession of weapons,
excluding carrying a pistol by a person licensed to carry a concealed
pistol, on the premises of libraries, zoos, aquariums, and transit facilities" implies otherwise.

IANAL, so I look forward to their interpretation.
    That's correct.

Also, I disagree with the Ammoland article that concludes the new law impacts carrying of knives.

You have to look closely at the statute and see what definitions of "weapon" are used in for the section in general and for particular subsections.

Here is the session law... https://lawfilesext.leg.wa.gov/bienn....SL.pdf#page=1

Of course, this state is making stuff so convoluted, it's getting quite easy for a law abiding person to run afoul of something.
