    Mammoth Ivory.

Does anyone know anything about ivory?

    I know shit not.

I wanna buy some to have some revolver stocks made.

Do you have to stabilize before you use it?

Pretty sure you do. I only have mammoth ivory on one knife, and a few with pre-ban elephant ivory.

Are you planning on doing this yourself or buying from a purveyor?

AFAIK, they use something like Krazy Glue (CA).

Oh hell no blues I’m not handy.

I wanna buy a chunk of the least troublesome stuff to hand over to a grip maker.

Gotcha. Pretty sure the pros use some thin CA to stabilize it.

    Do you have a contact?

My pleasure, Craig. If he has it, he'll most likely have some very nice pieces. I wrote him and I'll check in a few moments.

    Thanks blues.

I’m not seeing any in stock on the website but I know that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have any.

I haven't heard back from him. I sent a PM on bladeforums. I also asked him to give me a referral if he has one to recommend.

I don't know if Culpepper here in NC handles ivory or mastodon ivory. They mostly do wood, bone and stag. But it's possible. They've been around forever at shows and most makers have bought from them.

Let's see what Brian has to say and I'll report back unless you reach out directly.

Okay, I heard back from Brian and he said he does have some on hand but mostly small pieces, which would primarily be suitable for slipjoint knives.

However, he does have a recommendation:

As far as recommendations for stabilized mammoth ivory (and the work too for that matter), I would hands down, 100% recommend Dan Chinnock. Not only does he have a large supply of VERY beautiful, stabilized mammoth ivory... But he does some of the best pistol grip work I have seen. Great guy, easy to work with, and he guarantees his products.

    https://www.danchinnock.com/1911-ivory-grips.htm

    Hope that helps, Craig.
