I'm laughing as I read this because I'm picturing a guy standing at the gun counter comparing two handguns. He tells the clerk "I dunno. I really like this Staccato with it's red dot sight. I know it's just hyperbole to make a point but it's funny.

Take solace in the fact that I've seen a women or two that Hafþór Björnsson and Brian Shaw working together would struggle to carry out of a burning building.

I’m 51. I have the time to shoot about 500 rounds per month thanks to a career, house, spouse, etc. The transition from irons to an ACOG almost 20 years ago during OEF2 took maybe 2 days. I was literally posting my highest qual scores I’d seen since enlisting in the early 90s with an ACOG or Aimpoint with just 2-3 days of training on an optic.

My transition to a pistol RDO over the past 18 months has been nowhere near as seamless. I’ve been dedicating about half of my round count and training to a RDO. Now, I’m about as equally fast with RDO and HD night sights, and slightly more accurate beyond 20 yards with a RDO. However, that came with a lot of rounds, classes, and dry fire. I completely get it if some GenXers and Boomers don’t feel the juice is worth the squeeze.

Wow does this post ring true. With my lack of desire to train, I just can't get the performance from a dot gun at ranges 5-15 yards that I can with irons. Beyond that the Dot definitely pulls away.

In addition, I am so over the larger footprint of a pistol with irons and flashlight that I simply quit carrying it AIWB and lazed to pocket carry. I happily carried my full Amish G19 in tiny Raven Eidolon for many years before stepping up to a light and optic and basically quitting carrying that same tarted up pistol due to the bulk. I am not sure that was a step in the right direction.

Why didn't you just dump the light and run the g19 with an optic?

There's a lot more to it than what people think when saying "just do XYZ" and it's better for "ABC" while ignoring the rest of the equation and every day life.... Took some photos today. Keep in mind with these, that the same forces that allow for better grip tuck also force the optic away from the body - overall height matters, and height over the bore matters a lot as well. The profile of the rear of the gun matters too.

I generally carry "gun amish" but take classes with the dot, and distance/one hand work with a dot - helps me learn more but eases the concealment problem.
