Neither Ruger nor S&W make a "Lightweight 3" 38 Special" . Taurus does, so there you have it.

    The Ruger 3" LCRx is a lightweight 38 SPL, but it's $600+ and a 5 shot... The Taurus is a 6 shot at $350

I have owned 4 Taurus revolvers 2 had issues. A 50% failure rate with light use is why I can not recommend them to anyone.

Not even close to correct. A 3" LCR is definitely lightweight.

What were the manufacture dates? Seems like the newer ones are less problematic. I’m seriously thinking about a 3” 856 TORO.

My TORO is pretty awesome, really happy with it. Trigger went from “good for the price” to “competitive with S&W” over the first 600 rounds or so.

Plus, Expert Voice pricing is hard to resist.

Have an 82 and (gulp) Judge inbound.

The newer Taurus may be better and I will watch for several years to see (Only negitive so far is finish is shit according to interweb)

No locat shops other than big box carry Taurus or Kimber due to all the problems in the past.

Can a quality durable revolver be made for $300ish retail?

Caleb just hit 10k on his 82 and I was surprised how well the finish held up, given the prior reputation. It’s beat up but whatever they use (parkerizing?) looks decent.
