Congrats on the Gen5 MOS! You can always remove the dot and use irons if you choose to.

You will get a lot of different opinions on if you should start with a dot or not. That is a subjective choice which will depend on your eyesight, your hand-eye coordination, and your level of dedication to educated dryfire and practice.

For someone who isn't going to train and practice a lot and often and well, a dot does not make sense due to the precise index involved.

If it works for your vision, honestly, it seems you are motivated to put the work involved such that the dot will be a benefit and not a hindrance. Remember to look at the exact spot on the target you want to hit and not the reticle. Get educated on grip and other mechanics and then practice draws and pointing the gun at targets dry both one and 2 handed until you always have the dot exactly where you want it.
