Thread: New Springfield TRP Options

  1. #31
The FLGR on these would be fine if it was a one piece or tool less design. My TRPs factory 2 piece guide rod couldn’t make it through 50rd without starting to unscrew, and it was the first thing I changed.

I will say, instead of making this optic ready, I would have preferred to see non SA branded sights. Whatever they are currently producing doesn’t seem near as rugged as the Trijicon? Of older TRPs. My tritium rear sight had a vial come out within the first 500rd, and I replaced with a Wilson rear.

With regard to the 20LPI, I am a full time desk jockey and it doesn’t hurt my hands at all, even with the extremely grippy factory g10 as well. Edit—and I have the stainless version without any coating to tame the checkering down. With the cerakote, I think the 20LPI will be a little toned down.

+1 on the TRP checkering. Just a little too aggressive for my tastes. I’ve always dug the basic gun though.

I love all the old school-cool in the marketing: classic leather, 3-4 o’clock IWB carry; the Randall knife in the promo photos… these guys know who they are marketing to. 60 is the new 40…

I realize this is thread drift, but perhaps somewhat relevant.

I took my two new legacy TRPs to the range today and the results were pretty good. I fired about 300 rounds, a mixture of hardball and HST which is what I carry. I had one failure to feed with ball ammo, so I will check the extractor tension on that gun. Other than that they ran fine.

The sights shoot a bit low for me, but I've never been a big fan of Novak sights anyway so I will be replacing those with Heinie Ledge sights right away plus either fiber optic or gold bead fronts.

Agree. The DW Specialist sites at the inflection point of diminishing returns when it comes to value in a “operator” style 1911. Now that DW has added an optics ready 45ACP option (that will probably trickle down to other calibers), they will really pull away from SA.

The street price for the new TRPs seems to be starting at just over $1600 on the auction sites. Some are priced higher of course.

The legacy TRPs are available for around $1500.

I fit new small parts no matter what they're made of so mim is a moot point for me.

Full length guide rod is a waste imo but an easy swap.

    Aggressive checkering? That's my jam.

Bobtails? Not for me. I hope they do a normal LW commander.
