Thread: New Springfield TRP Options

    New Springfield TRP Options

SHOT Show is right around the corner and we're seeing some pre Show releases.

Springfield Armory is announcing some new versions of the TRP. There is a new color option available as well as a bobtail Commander. Railed versions are also available which I don't think was an option previously.

No 9mm option in the TRP and no optics ready version. Maybe Springfield is leaving the optics stuff to the Prodigy?

TRPs have been kind of hit or miss over the years but also generally a decent value in the semi custom 1911 market.

Pretty neat. Hilton Yam did a full review posted on YouTube this morning.

I like most of the changes. A few things I don’t care for (flgr, 3 dot sights, mim for price). It would’ve been nice to see an optics ready variant.

I'm glad to see this from Springfield Armory, but the timing is killing me. I have two TRPs with consecutive serial numbers waiting for me to pick up at the LGS today and they obviously don't have the new features.

I like the ledge-style rear sight SA is using now, I have one on my Operator. I'm a fan of the Heinie Ledge sight and this one is very similar. I can switch out my Novak sights if I don't like them.

And the top serrations are a nice addition, which my guns don't have. I can take or leave the new trigger style, but I prefer metal over the polymer triggers the new models have.

    Ah well.

I'm not paying two grand for a pistol full of MIM parts. That's Dan Wesson territory and a superior product.
We may lose and we may win, but we will never be here again.......

I like some of Springfield's 1911s for the price point (my wife's Garrison I'm quite happy with for $700), but I have to agree with Trooper, at that price point I'm shopping Dan Wesson.

Agreed. The TRP was a great $1200 1911. $2000 isn’t THAT far from Les Baer territory. If street prices are around $1500 it may be an okay deal.

But a TRP isn’t a semi custom. I’m not sure what those words even mean together. I know how they’re commonly used in this space, but a gun is either custom or it’s not. The TRP was a really good value for a production gun. Maybe not any more.

A rail option from SA that has front strap checkering but isn't a full rail and/or bull barrel configuration does fill a gap they had in their lineup, so that's cool. That said, I definitely opened this thread expecting to see optic ready variants, and I'm disappointed to see that isn't the case. I'm surprised Dan Wesson seems to be the only quality production 1911 company that cares about having an optic ready single stack model (unless I'm missing someone, I think the only readily available OR 1911s that can be had for under $2500 are the DW Specialist and the various Kimbers).

It won't surprise me to see SA extend the TRP line to include an optics ready option.

I don't know why anyone would necessarily fixate on MSRP and use that as a representation or comparison of other products.

The suggested price on the Prodigy is $1499. Guns can be easily found for $1200. Even less with a bit of online searching. Springfield isn't the only company to have higher MSRPs vs actual store prices. The Tisas Raider is $759.99 on the Tisas website but Bud's has the same gun for $629.99.

Ruger is notorious for setting high MSRPs on all its guns. I asked one of the corporate people once about this. He told me the MSRP is set high to give dealers maximum flexibility in pricing in their local markets.
